Heat center Shaquille O’Neal will miss two to four weeks with a sprained right ankle, the Miami Herald quoted the team as saying Friday. That would mean from six (two weeks) to 13 (four) games missed. The team was 8-3 in his absence last season, nine regular-season games and two in the playoffs. An MRI revealed the sprain. O’Neal was injured when he landed on Ron Artest’s foot when attempting to rebound in the fourth quarter of Thursday’s loss to Indiana.
Shaq’s backup is Mourning – who I was considering picking up as my 3rd center anyway… I’d say he’s good as a 2nd center until the Big [Your Noun Here] comes back. If you’re the one with Shaq, Mourning is a great pick up to fill in while he’s out.
PS: I’m sure no one was counting on Shaq playing 82 games, but did anyone think he’d be out so early? Could mean that he’ll play more down the stretch…
