Couple new Fantasy NBA Blogs

SportsBlog Nation has added one that is called Fake Teams. It’s a little hard to tell from the mission statement, but it appears to be examining Fantasy Sports in general, as opposed to just strictly Fantasy Basketball. I’ve got it in my “-Fantasy Basketball” category in BlogLines, but it will get demoted to “Basketball - 03″ pretty quick if I see any more Mike Piazza analysis.

The other new one (new to me, at least) is called Fantasy Bull, and is running over on that Blogspot platform. Saeed does have regular reports on what appears to be the RaptorBlog league… which I might have been apart of, except for the fact that the RaptorBlog still does not have an RSS feed! Scott did redesign the RaptorBlog, but I still can’t find an RSS feed… and, no offense to RaptorBlog, but if you don’t have an RSS feed, I’m not going to read your blog. Fantasy Bull does have an RSS feed, though, and a good sense of self-depricating and/or random-style humor. I like the blog, though, in spite of the fact that he called me fallacious in a comment on here. I totally do not do that. I have a wife, you know.

Also, I have 3 actual articles in the hopper, but my other computer broke yesterday, so I have to let my wife use this one now.

Carter to Ketel: You’re vodka

FOXSports.com - NBA- Carter warns kids: Don’t be like Kobe

“The only bad thing about it is that younger kids, whose minds are easily warped, are going to think, ‘Ohhh! I am going to go out there and do it instead of (honoring) the team concept first,’” the Nets’ star told the newspaper. “That is what is missing in the game, guys understanding how to play as a team.”

Carter went on to say, “I think it is great for (the NBA): They want scoring, they want ratings, and you are going to get that. You are definitely going to get them now with the amount of 50-point games, 60-plus games. I just hope that kids and young guys understand that (only) special guys can do that. Yeah, the (other Lakers) were trying to get Kobe the ball, they wanted to see a special night. But they all know their roles.”

Emphasis mine. And I mean it. If you’ve been around here since before the season at all, you probably know my opinion on guys who request trades. It is not a good opinion, that’s for sure.

Last season, Carter ranked just behind Bryant in shots attempted per game (Bryant took 20.1 shots per game, while Carter took 20.0). And Carter is still among the league leaders in that category this year at 19.0 shots per game, although he’s well behind Bryant, who leads the NBA at 27.7 shots per contest.

Ah, yes, team player extraordinaire. Some day I hope to be as good a team player as Vince Carter. Especially if it means I get 58% more money than the next “best” guy on my team (VC: 19 shots/game, RJ and J-Kidd: 12 = 1.58x as many shots for Vince)

Gerald Wallace to be put to sleep?

Gerald Wallace - Charlotte Bobcats - News - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

Tests on Wallace’s ailing left leg have revealed a medial tibia bone bruise, an injury suffered when he fell to the ground after going for a rebound in Friday’s loss to the Orlando Magic. The Bobcats expect the swingman to be sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks, just adding to their long list of injury problems this season.

If he was a horse ala the kind of thoroughbred he has been playing like this year, he might have to be put to sleep. I saw that fall on one of those highlight shows that I only get to see when I go out on Saturday nights cause everywhere outside of my house has cable and it looked like a pretty hard fall.

Fantasy Impact

Anyway… didn’t I just do an analysis of the Bobcats? Yes, yes I did. But this changes everything. Alan Anderson doesn’t exactly look like he’s going to pan out, but Bernard Robinson actually might. Of course, they both make Jumaine Jones look like the stud of the century. I’d take those 18 points and 8 rebounds he had after Wallace left the game, fo sho.

I’m a little surprised that Keith Bogans hasn’t stepped up a little more, but perhaps we should give him another game or two without Wallace before taking him off the players to watch list.

In Other News

I picked Anthony Johnson in my FantasyBasketball.com Writers League. I am now 2.5 games out of 1st place there, putting me at #2. I’ll take that. I am also in sole possession of 1st place in my Return of the Jedi Basketblogger league. Can we end the season right now? Seriously, no where to go but down now… I guess we’ll see how long my luck-disguised-as-skill will last.

May out till May

Okay, so I don’t actually know that he’ll be out until May. The AP couldn’t be more clear than “likely.”

FOXSports.com - NBA- May’s rookie season likely over after surgery

Charlotte Bobcats forward Sean May had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Thursday, likely bringing his rookie season to an end.

Safe to say it’s time to drop him. He’s not going to make your keeper list so don’t worry about it.

Jumaine Jones has been picking up the minutes, filling in for like 9 injured players on the Bobcats roster. His numbers aren’t great, but there better than nothing. 1.8 threes/game (over the last 5) could help you fill a hole there. His 11, 4.8, and 1.6 aren’t stellar, but are above the league average for forwards. And he can play the small one.

If you want to look real smart, keep an eye on Alan Anderson. Yeah, who? I don’t know either, and it probably won’t matter for either of us if Kareem Rush and Emeka Okafor ever get back. Meanwhile, Brevin Knight and Raymond Felton are both Ballin’ Outta Control (when you consider the fact that they play the same position and they combined for 74 minutes played in their last game).

FOXSports.com - NBA- Abdur-Rahim returns to Kings ‘wired shut’

Forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim was back in uniform for the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night, making an improbably quick return to action with his broken jaw still wired shut.

Abdur-Rahim missed 10 games over the past 3 1/2 weeks after getting hurt in a collision with Portland’s Zach Randolph. But instead of sitting out two months, as the team predicted, the 10-year veteran decided to test his stamina and breathing ability against the Los Angeles Lakers.

“What am I waiting for?” Abdur-Rahim asked through clenched teeth before the game.

Shareef’s got a little Kanye West in him, I see. Evidently the wired jaw prevents him from getting up for any rebounds, though… so you might want to wait until he’s back at full strength until you put him back in your lineup.

It’s Mark Blount People!

Seriously… is all the coverage necessary?

Celtics Blog, okay, that makes sense… But is this something The Sports Source (nee The NBA Source) really needs to cover? I mean, the trade hasn’t even taken place! Even the usually tasteful YAY Sports NBA is writing about the prospect that Blount will be involved in a blockbuster deal for the likes of Michael Olowokandi, Lorenzen Wright, or Earl Watson.

Celtics 17 also deems it worthy of 2 posts, and I can forgive him for that… I guess…

When the trade is actually consumated, you can bet I’ll be all over this like Isaac Mizrahi on Scarlett Johansson.

Yeah, did you get the memo?

25, 5,3 with 4 threes on 57% and 83% + 2 steals.

He’s playing well enough that he should keep starting when Bonzi gets back. It’s probably not going to happen, but it’s a nice thought right?
