The American version does have the advantage of making more episodes (already) than the original british series. But the original was brilliant. and….original. No matter what nuance they put into the American version it’s still derived from the british series.

The American version far exceeded my expectations though, and is probably my favorite active comedy on TV. Too bad I accidentally read your spoiler before watching tonight

Here I was all prepared to be sympathetic to the person for whom I spoiled the show (knowing that it was almost certain to happen – even with only 80 readers).

But then it has to be Matt (of BlogABull) who’s in the same freakin time zone as me. I almost pulled the post last night since I couldn’t figure out when it was going to be on for the West Coast.

I think what it really comes down to is not which is better overall per se… but more about which type of humor you prefer. David is a little too harsh and unsympathic to appeal to me, where as Michael is just dumb, and that’s more endearing. The humor in the American one is also a little more obvious (we’ll call it “dumb American”-type humor). I’m happy to classify myself as a dumb American for liking that kind of humor better than the more subtle, drier Brit style.

Also, how is My Name is Earl so funny? I tried telling my wife about all the funny parts and they sounded really stupid, but on the show, they’re great!
