As my Bucks fantasy preview suspected, the Bucks aren’t done this off-season. Today, the Milwaukee Bucks traded forward Joe Smith to Denver Nuggets for forward Ruben Patterson. Fortunately for fantasy owners, they both suck, no need to worry about the fantasy implications of this one. You can safely return to your football cheat sheets.

Ok, these statements from Bucks general manager Larry Harris could possibly be bad news for Bobby Simmons: “Adding Ruben gives us added strength at the small forward position” and “We really needed to find a small forward that fit the bill for us.” Even if that’s only general manager speak, and I’d bet it is, having another small forward on the roster is not good news for Simmons.

Last season, Patterson averaged 24 minutes with the Blazers before getting traded to Denver where he averaged 28 minutes a game. He put up a fantasy ranking of 173, so if anyone out there plays in something approaching an 18 team league, you might want to check him out. Otherwise, don’t expect anything next year from Patterson except for a bite out of Bobby Simmons value.

Could the acquistion of Smith mean that the Nuggets have found someone to take Kenyon Martin off their hands? Reggie Evans isn’t exactly starting PF material, but Nene and Camby up front would be pretty intimidating. And if Camby gets injured, you’ve still got Evans starting at PF with Joe Smith as your backup. Not a best-case scenario, but not the worst-case either.
