I have a few posts in the works, but they were not engaging me at the moment. So here are some thoughts/notes from yesterdays games. Also, as a quick preface, I took over the lead of my fantasy league today. I now feel like i have some clout and everyone should listen to me.
- Daniel Gibson made his first NBA start last night. He dropped 18 points on six of twelve. I am thoroughly impressed. The stat line tells me he shot well and made the most of his time on the court. Gibson also found 5 rebounds, more likely the product of an utter lack of rebounding by the Raptors, with the exception of Chris Bosh. Garbajosa, Nesterovic and Bargnani combined for eight rebounds; congrats on wasting all 20 feet 8 inches of that combination. I love that Gibson had this success, because i always like to fantasize that if i actually did anything other than play Everquest in high school, i would of gone to the University of Texas. I stand by my decision.
- Salim Stoudamire logged a career high 36 minutes last night. He and his listed “six foot one” of height exceeded expectations and dropped 21 points with three 3′s and 4 of 4 FT’s. He has worked his way into Atlanta’s rotation and 27mpg in December. If he learns how to pass the ball, 1.3 apg in 4 games in Dec, he may have some fantasy value, hell if he drops another 20 points next game, who cares about the assists?
- Chris Duhon had 12 assists! Ok, so i know that everyone has him on their ‘players to watch’ list, but I think it will be best to let someone else spend a roster spot on Duhon. He did dish 12 dimes and drop 10 points last night, but it was in a blowout win and Kirk Hinrich only played 11 minutes (in my fantasy army). I am sure Duhon is on your waiver wire and has probably been on a roster already this year. Try to hold off on him, remember, in December he is averaging more assists than points and only a half a steal. The assists are nice, but they are inconsistent.
- Cav’s coach Mike Brown has huge balls. Either that or he already fears for his job. The Cavs are expected to have a huge season, the recent 5-5 skid in the atrocious Eastern conference is making Brown uneasy. Brown’s job is safe unless he suffers a first round playoff exit, he is not in Paul Silas’ shoes yet. Remember when Paul Silas and LeBron were supposed to be the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston of the NBA? Both combinations were sexually attractive, but both ended sourly. Wait… what did i just say?
- Anyway, i am commenting on Mike Brown because Gibson is the second rookie he has started at shooting guard in the absence of Larry ‘misses Gilbert Arenas’ Hughes. Gibson so far has worked out just as well as Shannon Brown. Shannon started four games between last night and the 25th. Did i say ‘just as well?’ Oh, i was looking at Brown’s aggregate of 17 points in 4 games. I saw Brown play here in Houston against the Rockets, 22 minutes, zero points; the only things he has on the stat sheet from that night is 2 missed shots, five rebounds and a foul.
- The best part about all of this is that Damon Jones is on this team and Mike Brown never even considered starting him, good stuff. Damon Jones is done for.
- Last point. Rasual Butler is making some fantasy noise. He has over 42 minutes in his last two games. On the 1st against the Bulls he had 33 points with 7 of 12 three point shooting; NOK still lost. Last night he scored 22 points and pulled down 6 boards. If he does that nightly then sign me up!
