Thus far, this NBA season has been a calamity of injuries. Did NBA players stop treating anti-inflammatories like sweettarts? I am tempted to stop writing this article and start rampantly buying shares of stock in whoever distributes Naproxen, buy low baby. Here are some of the players who are watching their value skyrocket.

    - Earl Boykins – Height is no measure of value as Nels reminded us. If you own Earl, then last week’s trade is your fantasy birthday.

    - Gerald Green – *Gulf Shores Houston Tx Shout Out!* Gulf Shores is actually on the other side of the city from my house. But, what the hell, shout outs are always necessary for Houston area prep stars, Rashard Lewis in the House!

At least the Rockets never got a chance to pass on Gerald Green, yes the city has still not forgiven you CD. Gerald posted some good numbers when he stepped on the court, but Doc Rivers was up to his antics; antics is code for terrible coaching. After riding the bench some more Green has gotten another chance due to Tony Allen’s injury. If you have an expendable roster spot then add him.

    - Willie Green – Dear Billy King, nice one. You went from Eastern Conference champs to bottom feeders in a few years, I would compare you to the band Puddle of Mudd, but that would be an insult to one of the worst bands of the past five years. Either way, Willie Green is now the number two option, make the best of this trainwreck and pick him up. Honorable mention goes to Louis Williams, you don’t know who he is? Oh, you will in a few years, or at least in a few weeks when i write an article on him.

    - Grant Hill/Hedo Turkoglu – Trevor Ariza has been riding both of them Damon Huard style for the past few months. If this injury keeps him out for any amount of time then GH and HT will be worth having in shallow leagues. The only problem both have faced is consistency, not having the youthful Ariza as an off the bench option will keep them both on the court.

Three of my favorite players of the last decade.

    - Josh Childress – The afro is seeing some time at the point. Both Speedy Claxton and Tyronn Lue are out so Josh is seeing time in the backcourt. Any time is good time for Josh.

    - Nick Collison – 25 and 13, still coming out of nowhere. I guess he just needed time to warm up.

Also, welcome Becks! I can’t wait to see him in action live and to jeer him, though I secretly love him.

I’ve had incredibly bad luck this year: My draft brought me David West, Chris Bosh, Ray Allen, Peja, and Josh Smith. Good players (well, except for Peja), but they’ve all had lengthy injuries. I remedied that by picking up Tony Allen (gah!) and Mickael Pietrus (come on, now–seriously…).

But now that I just picked up Collison and Gerald Green, and with Smith (and hopefully West) coming back soon, I might be ok. My one position of true weakness: Center. I’ve got Chris Kaman, Zo, and I just dropped Nazr Mohammed for Tony Battie. Kaman’s been mediocre, Zo has been decent but Shaq is coming back… Battie? Meh.

So my question: Is there anyone–ANYONE–else out there? Is there some Matt Carroll-esque sleeper people don’t know about? Is there someone out there whose stats are slowly going up and we don’t realize it? Anyone we should be keeping an eye on? I’d appreciate any help you could give me here…

      Thanks,

      Joel

Man Joel, your free agent/sleeper options at center are thinner than the script for the last episode of Friends.

In no order, here are the players I am monitoring. These guys all have a chance to become fantasy producers under the status quo, meaning without a debilitating injury to another player on the team (though serious injury/suspension/rabies is going to be your best bet of a sleeper coming to fruition).

      1. LaMarcus Aldridge – It is a matter of minutes not talent.
      2. Primoz Brezec – Consistent moderation. He will not blow up for double doubles every night, but he averaged 13 and 6 for a whole season last year. This year though, Sean May is bringing him down, i would check out May if he is available in your league.
      3. Mikki Moore – It takes time for L. Frank to trust his big men. This makes sense since he has three top tier options in Kidd, Carter and RJ, but he realizes he has to feign an inside game after awhile.
      4. Kendrick Perkins – Gave me some good FG% and rebound help at the end of last year, his potential is very limited, but i see him as capable of 12 and 8.

Again, these players will not explode to dizzying heights, but if they pick up their game or their teams make some adjustments then they can be a contributor. Also, note that this is in a pretty deep league, if my advice was off target and your league is more shallow then hit me back and let me know.
