Thanks for checking in Phil. What we lack in useful fantasy advice on the site, we try and make for in bon mots.

Congrats on winning the basketbawful league. Despite the fact that I hated the playoffs, the league was actually pretty fun for the first 20 or so weeks. The league was competitive and I also liked the max 6 roster move idea as it forced people to trade more often.

As a member of the Basketbawful league, I agree. H2H is tough. I rarely play them either for the same luck issue, but you have to admit, it was a cool concept. Only 6 moves the whole year? Wierd, but cool. Anyway, it was fun...probably because I came out on top, but still, it was fun and would have been had I lost.

Cheers to a sweet blog...I'm always checking out. Half for fantasy, half for the shenanigans!

I'm a fan of your 75 max games played suggestion. And I never want to play more than 82 games at most. That no limit league got to be way too much work by about the third week of November.

I think the problem with the bubble team suggestion would be being able to accurately forecast those teams at the start of the year. Forced to pick last October, I might have ended up with Paul Pierce and Wally Szczerbiak. Yikes...

2 notes:

1) The guys at Fantasy Basketblog always advocate taking Point Guards and Centers first so you get the best available at those positions. It's basically saying that the average of a small-ball and big-ball team is actually the ideal mid-ball team. I'm starting to think they've got something going there.

2) I think the new default standard for Games Played should be at most 75. Not to be a total biter (does anyone say that anymore?), but this was discussed on Fantasy Basketblog as well as a solution to the last season "injuries" to players who are on playoff-bound teams, or lottery-bound teams.

Which actually leads to another bit of strategy... that being: If the Games Played limit in your league is 82, pick players who are on teams that you think will be bubble teams. I'll tell you that Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson were much more productive over the last few games than Andre Iguodala. And I didn't even have any of the Mavericks on my team.

And if you synthesize the two bits of advice, it looks like: Take PGs and Cs on Bubble Teams first.
