Once again, Gilbert is awesome

See below for an answer from Gilbert himself (and why this post has the title it does).

From Gilbertology:

Agent Arenas’ Halo 3 stats. Perhaps in his next blog, Gilbert can tell us about his experience with a faulty internet connection. I mean, 22 games in 26 minutes with the same four players every time? I would imagine it’s pretty easy to rack up the first place finishes when the other guys DNF every time. And the one time in that stretch (see 10/10/2007 around 10:41 PM) when Agent Arenas plays with other people, his entire 4 man crews suffers from the DNF and all tie for 3rd place.

If you go back in the records - not that I have the time to go through 19 pages (or 470 games) - it does appear that about half of the 470 are legit (here’s an example where AA led his team to a convincing victory). I’m fine with that. But I really would like to understand how a person could spend what appears to be 4 hours straight (Bungie’s sorting system seems to be a little out of whack, and the 26 minute span mentioned above is just part of that gaming mini-marathon) playing 4 second games against the same people who DNF every time. I have friends that I play online with sometimes. And sometimes there’s lag in the games. But really, raise your hand if you wouldn’t give up after an hour at most.

Did someone hack Agent Zero’s Xbox Live account and set him up to look like a cheater? Or is Gilbert (or someone of his employ) doing this in a not-so-thinly-veiled attempt to make him look like a monster gamer? This is certainly at least as important as Brad Miller’s corn rows or the Knicks signing Allan Houston.

A Few Good Men

Update: I know, I hate updates, but this needs more than a comment.

From the DC Sports Bog:

“Gilbert,” I asked, approximately,” are you creating dummy games with two fake friends and using the wins to rack up experience points?”

“Yeah,” he said, laughing. “Yeah.”

Sigh.

“It’s a glitch,” he explained. “It’s a glitch in the game. I seen some kids that were like 600s, they won 600 Halo games and we only had that game for two weeks. And all the kids go to school. So I’m like, ‘What the hell you all doing?’ And they said that’s what they doing, two-on-two.”

The best part is the thread on Bungie.net which, at one point, degrades - like most video game forum threads - into a discussion of who has a girlfriend, and who’s had sex, and why having sex is good and people are lame for not having a girlfriend to have sex with.

Thanks, Gil.
