First off, it’s Wednesday at the office which usually means that in desperate need of distractions that will help me waste half the day while I pretend to work. If that sounds like you too, Epic Carnival has a fun post up about the Top 10 Fantasy Basketball Owner Types.

Forced to choose, I’d guess I’d say I was a cross between a Money B Baller and a High Risk player, which typically means my teams crash and burn faster than the Pacers when Jermaine O’Neal knee swells up for the fifth time during the season (O’Neal is on my team in the GMTR readers league and yes, he’s already had that little red cross next to his name)

It’s that time of year when all the hope we had going into our draft gets a big kick in the groin from a little something called reality. Yes, it’s the preseason, which means there are injuries to report.

Kevin Durant sprained his left ankle in last night’s preseason game against Golden State and left the game in the fourth quarter. All you Durant owners can take a deep breathe though. While he’ll likely be held out of tonight’s game, it does not appear to be all that serious and he should be ready to go by the start of the season.

Josh Howard left the Mavs game with a sprained wrist, which isn’t the best sign for a guy who has had trouble staying healthy in the past. Howard has already been suspended for the first two games of the season, so unless his MRI turns out horribly, he should be back for game three.

In more serious news, Lamar Odom is expected to miss the first two weeks of the season with the shoulder injury that has kept him out of the preseason. Odom has been practicing with the team, so this is more of a precautionary measure than anything, which makes sense if the Lakers are trying to piss off Kobe even more so that they can ultimate trade him for 10 cents on the dollar. It’s a good time to grab Luke Walton as a stopgap if he’s available in your league.

And finally some good news for you Elton Brand owners. Brand had his walking boot removed on Tuesday which means he can now participate in everyone’s favorite activity – aqua-therapy! His next evaluation will be in six weeks and we’ll know a lot more about his expected return date at that time.

Other Stuff Like This:

  • He's in a skinny year.
  • Brad Miller?? Really?? Is he in a contract year?
  • Also, I find that the more leagues I play in, the tougher it is not to be a favoriter. I've identified my guys that I think are in for big years and as long as anyone doesn't take them early, I try to snatch them up in every league. I guess that's how I ended up with Brad Miller in every league I'm in this year.
  • Since the Bulls are one of 30 teams in the league, a neutral person could be expected to draft 3.33% Bulls. Although the Bulls are pretty good, so let's bump that up to 4%. So you've drafted over 3 times the number of Bulls than would be expected. That smells like a homer to me.

Although, at least you didn't draft Ben Wallace in any leagues. That would be the clearest indication of any homerness.
  • I'll be Mr. Potential with a bit of Homer. Okay, maybe more than a bit. In 4 leagues, I've got Kirk Hinrich twice, Tyrus Thomas twice, Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, and Andres Nocioni.

Of course, I'm also a "favoriter" in that... I've got Andre Iguodala twice, Andrea Bargnani twice, Dwight Howard twice, Lamar Odom twice, Elton Brand twice, Jorge Garbajosa twice, and picked up Matt Carroll as a FA in 2 leagues. And I actually had Hinrich autopicked for me 1 of the 2 times... so really, having that many 7 Bulls amounts to only 13% of all my picks. This requires further analysis...
