Line of the Night: Yao Ming (5.8) is quietly doing his part to help China take over the world. Yesterday, he had a season high 34 points and was 13 of 15 from the floor, 8 of 8 from the line with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks in a Houston win over Charlotte. Health is the only thing that can keep Ming from a monster year and eventually Premier of the Communist Party of China where he’ll officially rule us all.
Honorable Mentions: Richard Hamilton (5.6) scored 32, but it was against Seattle, so we’ll have to discount some of those points. Corey Maggette (5.1) had an efficient 25 points and 11 rebounds. Tim Duncan (4.9) and Antawn Jamison (4.8)
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Jason Williams (3.6) had 17 points, 5 assists and 3 steals against the Knicks. Expectations for Williams were low going into the season, but he’s definitely worth a roster spot until he goes down with the inevitable leg injury. And how about this blast from the past – Anfernee Hardaway (3.5) had a crazy line – 5 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. He played 36 minutes. 36 minutes! It’s more a commentary on the sad state of the Heat roster, but in deep leagues Hardaway could actually to be fantasy contributor until Wade returns.
Goat of the Night: Charlie Villanueva (1.7). Sure, he’s in a tough situation thanks to the surprisingly good play of Yi Jianlian, but in 18 minutes yesterday, Villanueva managed to take 11 shots and make 4 of them. For anyone who drafted Villanueva (that includes me), I think it’s time you take him around to the back of the barn and put him out of his misery. I mean that figuratively, of course. I don’t even own a gun.
