Line of the Night: Allen Iverson (6.1). Great night for Denver and AI in particular as Nuggets whooped the Cavs 122 to 100. Iverson scored 37 points, making 14 of his 20 shots, and adding 8 assists and 3 rebounds. While Iverson’s scoring has dropped about 5 points a game from his Philly days, his shooting percentage has jumped from the low 40’s to about 46%, meaning that he’s just as good a fantasy player as he was a few years ago, even if his scoring stats aren’t as fun to look at.
Honorable Mentions: Chris Paul (5.8), Richard Jefferson (5.1), Carlos Boozer (5.0), Andrei Kirilenko (4.9).
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: It was such a good night for the Nuggets that even J.R. Smith (5.1) had a great game. It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Smith. He was suspended for three games for “conduct detrimental to the team†which I always imagined was something like Leonardo DeCaprio in The Basketball Diaries. Being addicted to heroin and prostituting yourself for money: now that is conduct that could be considered detrimental. Back on topic, Smith scored 29 and was 7 of 8 from the land of three last night. When his shot is falling, he looks great, but when it’s not… yowza, he’ll throw up some bad lines.
In deeper leagues: Ronnie Brewer (4.4) had 13 points and 3 steals in 24 minutes for the Jazz and Sean Williams (3.8) had 4 blocks for the Nets in 19 minutes. Both won’t see enough minutes to regularly contribute but deserve a round of applause.
Goat of the Night: There wasn’t a horrible performance in any of the three games, but forced to pick, the award goes to Zydrunas Ilgauskas. He only played 20 minutes on Monday night, scoring 2 points on 1 for 6 shooting. He’s been so good this year up to last night, I’ll let the big man skate on this one. Just don’t make it a habit Big-Z.
