Day 27 of 170: Jamario Moon? I Don't Think We've Met

Line of the Night: I’m bucking trend here and selecting Carlos Boozer (4.7) over Kobe Bryant (5.3) and LeBron James (5.3). The GMTR club only has a couple rules, but one of them is when a man hits 17 of 20 shots in a game, you give him the line of the night award. That shooting performance led Boozer to 36 points. He also pulled in 11 rebounds as the Jazz beat the Pistons 103 to 93.

Honorable Mentions: Kobe scored 31, had 4 steals and was 15 of 16 from the line; LeBron had one of those sissy triple-doubles (30/11/10) where he barely manages 10 assists – come on Lebron, even Ricky Davis can get one of those; Deron Williams (4.7) went for 21 points and 14 assists. He also blocked three shots. Maybe Williams can give Boozer a shot-blocking lesson or two.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Jamario Moon (4.6). Here’s how out of nowhere Jamario Moon came from. A couple of weeks ago in the CBS Sports 30-man league, someone actually had to ask the commissioner to add Moon to the list of available free agents so he could be picked up. Now he’s scoring 15 points and blocking 6 shots while playing 36 minutes for the Raptors.
Jorge Garbajosa could be on his way to season ending surgery, so Jason Kapono is the only thing standing in the way of consistently big minutes for Moon. He’s still a lot inconsistent for my taste, but Moon has improved since the start of the season and is getting the minutes, so he may be worth taking a flyer on in deeper leagues or leagues with a lot of bench spots.

Jose Calderon (4.6) is probably no longer available on waivers, but he had his best game yet starting in place of an injured T.J. Ford. Calderon scored 19 points and added 14 assists as the Raptors beat the Bulls.

Goat of the Night: I try to only select players here who at least have a moderate impact on fantasy teams, but Vladimir Radmanovic’s (0.7) performance was so horribly bad, it trumps all else. He was 0 for 10 from the field (0 for 7 from beyond the arc) and finished with 1 point, 0 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 turnovers. And all that in just 24 minutes of play.

Dishonorable Mentions: Between sitting out games and these 1 for 10 shooting performances, Troy Murphy (1.3) has to be killing fantasy owners this year. He’s all over the place in his game-to-game performance; Damien Wilkins (1.5) scored 2 points in 25 minutes; is a Ben Wallace (1.8) who doesn’t rebound or block shots actually a Ben Wallace?

Other Stuff Like This:

  • What's the saying I'm looking for Sarge... Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and then. :)

Alright, I'm just jealous I didn't have the foresight to pick up Moon.
  • BURN
  • Would you add Moon in the Dropping Dimes experts league? Oh wait, I did that about three weeks ago - nevermind. :)
  • Depends on what you can get for him and if you have a capable backup. Three months is a long time. It puts him on target for a late February return, which means he'll only play in 25-30 games before the end of the season.

If you have a decent backup, then hold onto Arenas, cause he'll help you out at the end of the year and for the playoffs if you have them. Otherwise see if you can get someone to bite. Hinrich could be a nice guy to buy low on.

should i try and trade arenas or sit him until he comes back

    Yeah, I'm happy with it.

What a fast paced game GSW vs. Suns. Lucky this is one of the few games a week on tv in canada.

    I miss my grizzlies.
  • I like the Smith for Lewis deal a lot. Smith is a beast and he's in for a huge year. As you said, Smith gets those tough steals and blocks categories. Nice job trading for a guy on the way up.

I picked up moon in both my leagues but dropped him recently..and now I came back from a weekend trip and he's "blowing up".

It's nothing new in the fantasy world, but I like to vent my daily fantasy frustrations.

Did I make a good deal? I got Josh Smith for Rashard Lewis. This league has the standard stats as well as FGM, FTM, OReb.

Lewis's % (esp 3's) are much better than Smiths. I value the rarity of good players that can block so I think i made a good deal...plus there are always good 3pt shooters on the waiver.

  • My first instinct was to say stick with Childress, but Moon’s recent numbers have looked decent. So, comparing Moon in his starts to Childress this year (minus the Hawks first game when he only played 18 minutes), here are the numbers:

    Moon: 9.6 pts, 6.8 rebs, 1.1 asts, 1.4 stls, 1.9 blks, 1.1 TOs, 46% FG%, 67% FT%
    Childress: 13.5 pts, 5.5 rebs, 1.0 asts, 0.8 stls, 0.4 blks, 1.1 TOs, 62% FG%, 96% FT%

So, their stats are close, much closer than I would have expected. They are delivering about equal value right now, so I would either play the one with the most games for the week (if you’re in a weekly league) or go with the guy who fits your team better (Childress’ percentages and points vs Moon’s steals and blocks). There is also a chance that Moon could continue to get better as the year goes on.

I picked Moon up off waivers. Would you put Moon in for Josh Childress in a head-to-head league?
