Line of the Night: Dwight Howard (4.5). Howard’s free throw percentage is still a killer, he was 8 of 13 yesterday, although he made them when it counted… in real life. They all count in fantasy. Still, I get very excited when someone grabs over 20 rebounds in a game (I have to get that checked out by a doctor). Howard had 23 of them last night, scoring 18 points and blocking 7 shots.
Honorable Mentions: Rudy Gay (5.0) scored 30 on 12 for 16 shooting; Andres Nocioni (5.0) also scored 30 and did half of it from the line (15 of 16); Monta Ellis (4.9) was 3 assists short of a triple double (22/12/7); Josh Smith (4.8) continues to fill up the stat line and his percentages are starting to come around; and Carlos Boozer (4.8) went for 24/15/5 and added 4 steals.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: With T.J. Ford out (along with most of the Raptors team), Jose Calderon (3.8) stepped up his game. And I think he just stepped it up again. Calderon went for 12/7/9 with 3 steals in a win against the Bobcats. In his last 6 games, here are Calderon’s assist totals – 13, 14, 10, 10, 11, and 9. Ford is out with a sore thumb, which I can’t imagine is a very serious injury, even for T.J. Ford, so expect him back in action soon. Calderon has been so good that he’s worth a roster spot even when Ford comes back and he’ll really be worth that spot when Ford gets hurt again.
There were a lot of other “nice” games from role players/bench guys who are probably available in your league. Travis Outlaw (4.1) scored 21 points, had 7 rebounds and 3 threes in 30 minutes off the Blazers bench yesterday. James Jones (3.9) scored 16 also off the bench for the Blazers. Keith Bogans (3.9) rode Orlando’s overtime to 43 minutes and 22 points. I wouldn’t run out and add any of them as they’ve all been way too inconsistent this season, but positive verbal feedback all around.
Goat of the Night: Raymond Felton (1.3) missed all 8 shots he took, putting up the old goose egg. He added 2 rebounds and 3 assists in 21 minutes in a loss against Toronto. Meanwhile, backup point guard Jeff McInnis played 30 minutes in the game (although he didn’t play much better) likely due to the lopsided score.
Dishonorable Mentions: Walter Herrmann (1.3) and Darko Milicic (1.1) played in a combined 9 minutes last night, Darko because of an ankle sprain and Herrmann because he’s sucktacular. A mighty thanks from everyone who wasted a draft pick on you Walter Herrmann.
