Line of the Night: Playing against Josh Smith (6.7) may be hazardous to your health. While Shawn Marion (7.0) technically had a better night statistically, Smith did everything better than Marion except for getting his shot to fall. Isn’t a great line is supposed to make you say wow? Smith’s does that. His latest ridiculous box score includes 25 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks. Wow.
Honorable Mentions: Marion had a great game himself and finished with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks; 36 points from Dirk Nowitzki (5.8) is exactly what owners wanted to see from him (I assume, since I don’t have him in any league); John Salmons (5.2) moves up to the big boy table as he fills in admirably for Kevin Martin; Dwyane Wade (5.2) scored 31 as the Heat beat the Suns; Josh Howard (5.0) “only” scored 22 last night, but added 4 threes and a couple blocks.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Francisco Garcia (5.0) If you talk enough, eventually you’ll say something that sounds intelligent. Garcia, who made an appearance on the WWLotN two days ago, followed it up with another good line – 15 points, 3 steals, 2 threes and a block. While Garcia is still a raw player prone to turnovers, here is a positive note about his role on the Kings from his player page:
Team officials have stressed they are willing to allow Garcia to grow as a player by playing him substantial minutes.
The proof is in the pudding, as they say. But me likes what I hear.
In the Deep End of the Pool: Anthony Johnson (4.7) played 35 minutes for the Hawks yesterday and finished with a line of 15/6/5 with 3 steals. He’s starting and his minutes have been trending up as of late (Tyronn Lue is out with a strained calf). When healthy, Atlanta is crowded at the point, but Lue and Speedy Claxton are hurt (shocking) and will likely remain that way for at least the next couple of weeks.
Goat of the Night: The only two players worst from a fantasy perspective than Eddy Curry (1.5) last night were Brian Cook, who played 5 minutes, and Salim Stoudamire, who played 6. On the other hand, it took Curry 31 minutes to deliver his horrific line of fantasy destruction, which included a 3 for 13 shooting night, 6 points, 3 rebounds, 0 blocks, 0 assists, and 3 turnovers. Meanwhile, Davis Lee is crying out for some help after being stuffed in his own locker at MSG by Isiah Thomas and Jared Jeffries.
