Line of the Night: Yao Ming (5.4). So, the Rockets got a vicious beat down from the Mavs yesterday (96-83). Blame it on the playing-through-an-injury Tracy McGrady. Blame it on the artist formally known as Steve Francis. Just don’t point any fingers at The Chairman, who finished with 28/14/3 and 3 blocks in 42 minutes. Ming was also 8 for 8 from the line and is shooting 87% from the line on the season! Time to add free throw shooting to the list of things that the Chinese do better than us.

Honorable Mentions: No triple-doubles last night, just a bunch of solid performances. Michael Redd (5.4) hit 7 threes; Joe Johnson (5.2) hit 5; Devin Harris (4.9) had 7 assists and 5 steals; Josh Smith (4.8) had a lot of numbers in his box score as usual, I just get tired of counting them all; Jamal Crawford (4.8) scored 32 on 11 of 18 shooting; Carlos Boozer (4.8) could only manage 16 rebounds. Slacker.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Fabricio Oberto (4.5). Hey, the starting center for my CBS 30-Deep league makes an appearance in the day 47 rundown! I say that more as a sad commentary on the state of my team’s centers than as a point to brag about. Robert Swift was my brilliant breakout pick who was going to return from injury and lead my team to the first undefeated season in fantasy basketball history. Robert F**king Swift. I digress. Even with Duncan back from his 4 game absence, Oberto continued to play well, scoring 21 off 10 of 11 shooting, and adding 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Here’s what Marcus Camby thinks about the Oberto situation:

“He had a great game, He usually doesn’t go for numbers like that,” said Marcus Camby, who had just four points and six rebounds for Denver. “We were so small with K-Mart being suspended, he (Oberto) was being played by a 6-7, 6-8 guy most of the night.”

While it’s kind of an assy thing to say, it nevertheless happens to be true. The Nuggets played Linas Kleiza on Oberto most of the night while Camby was on Duncan.

Why it’s Never a Good Idea to Rely on Rookies, Even Ones Who Are 27 Years Old and From Spain: In some of your leagues, you may have seen that Juan Carlos Navarro (4.5) had recently been dropped and for good reason. His minutes had dropped to under 20 a game. He had scored under 10 points for 4 straight games. And then, BAM – 27 points and 5 threes in 40 minutes. Someone was pushing the pace in this game as the Grizzles beat the Magic 123 to 119 and it meant a lot of scoring for everyone involved including Navarro. Leave him on waivers until, well, until next year.

Goat of the Night: Mike Dunleavy (1.7). Considering 11 games were played yesterday, there was a surprising lack of bad games from good players. Dunleavy had a bad one though, finishing with 6 points and 4 turnovers against Miami.

Dishonorable Mentions: Corey Brewer, a recent popular pickup, did some major damage to plenty of teams’ shooting percentages by going 2 for 13 from the floor in 29 minutes. Quentin Richardson continues to get 30+ minutes for the Knicks, but he shouldn’t be hurting many fantasy teams these days. I hope.

I gotta go to work, so I’ll just add this:

Dwight Howard, I believe, had 31/20 with one TO. No mention?

Yes, Howard indeed finished with 31 and 20 and probably deserved an honorable mention. He finished 13th on the rater for yesterday, primarily because of his 11 for 17 night from the line and the fact that he didn’t have an assist or steal (or three obviously). Still 31 and 20 merits some attention, simply because the only person who does that kind of thing right now is Dwight Howard.

hey guys, is okur worth dropping? mcdyess is on the fa list..i doubt i could get any value if i trade. also, even if he comes back how good can he possibly be with brewer and ak47 taking up his pts?

    • http://www.givemetherock.com Patrick

Yeah, actually, I could see dropping Okur for McDyess, who is playing surprisingly well so far this season. I would agree that Okur doesn’t have much trade value right now.
