Line of the Night: Allen Iverson (5.6). He handled the majority of the Nuggets scoring with 38 points, although it wasn’t quite enough as Denver lost to Portland 116 to 105. Iverson shot 50% from the floor and 87% from the line and added 6 assists, 3 threes, and 3 steals. Interestingly, he got to the line 15 times compared to 19 for the entire Blazers team.
Honorable Mentions: Instead of sleeping on Saturday, Kobe Bryant (4.8) spent the night icing his sore groin. It must have worked because he went for 32/8/3. Remind me to give that a try before my next big presentation at work; Corey Maggette (4.8) scored 27 and had 6 steals; Andrew Bynum (4.3) only had 14 and 9, but he blocked 6 shots.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Luke Walton (4.1) had some decent fantasy value last season starting for the Lakers and averaging 33 minutes a night (he finished 82 on the player rater last season). Guess what? He has recently been starting again for the Lakers over Vlad-Rad. Walton scored a season high 15 points on 6 for 6 shooting. He was also 3 for 3 in treys. His lines aren’t going to wow anyone, but they are quietly productive.
Sasha Vujacic (4.0) may have only played 19 minutes for the Lakers, but he was able to rack up 14 points off 3 threes and a couple of steals. He also won the award for quote of the night with this:
“Whenever Coach leaves me in there and gives me that confidence, I’m more happy than I can be,” Vujacic said. “I’m more calm now. My teammates have confidence in me, and whenever I have those open shots, they’re supposed to go it.”
James Jones (3.8) cannot compete with Vujacic’s linguistic gymnastics, but he can compete with him stat wise. In 30 minutes, he scored 14 points with 7 rebounds and 3 threes.
Goat of the Night: Andrea Bargnani (0.9). Usually, when I guy only plays 12 minutes in a game, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt before sticking him here. But, if you’re only going to play 12 minutes and if you’re not going to score any points and if you’re not going to get any significant defensive stats, please don’t turn the ball over twice.
Hey, You Look Familiar. Did I Use to Have You on My Fantasy Team? Kelenna Azubuike (0.9) only saw 7 minutes of action in Golden States loss to Detroit. The night before, he played 13. The night before that, he started and played 36. The night before that, he didn’t start but played 43 minutes. It’s been a roller coaster ride for Azubuike this season and we’re still only in December.
