Line of the Night: I would be remiss not to mention GMTR fav Caron Butler (4.9), who finished with a triple double (29/11/10) last night in a loss to the Bulls. You could make an argument for Butler being the best player on the Wizards before Gibert Arenas got injured, but with Arenas sitting out, he’s clearly running the show and managing to keep the Wizards afloat for now. BTW, it grows increasingly ridiculous every day that this is how the Wizards got Butler.
However, the highest game score of the night actually goes to LeBron James (5.5). James scored 32, grabbed 8 rebounds, had 6 assists and 6 steals. The Cavs ended up getting blown out by the surging Knicks (winners of 1 straight!), although it didn’t help that Drew Gooden was the Cavs second leading scorer on the night with 11 points.
Honorable Mentions: Butler; Ron Artest (5.2) had a rare great shooting night while adding 8 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks; Dwyane Wade (4.9) went to the line 22 times! He hit 20 of them, but that can’t be good for the shoulder; Mike Miller (4.6) scored 31 with 5 threes; Chris Paul (4.4) had 21 points and 15 assistesess.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Beno Udrih (4.3) is back in our good graces. Udrih is getting so much airtime on these rundowns, I’m thinking about renaming this portion of the rundown “Time With Beno.” You’re Beno Fact of the day via his Wikipedia page (I find it slightly amusing he has a Wikipedia page), Udrih comes from a family of basketball players. His father was a professional basketball player in Slovenia while his brother currently plays in Spain.
Digging Deeper: Rashad McCants (4.1) started at SG for the Wolves over Marco Jaric (who racked up a DNP last night). McCants played 45 minutes and finished with a line of 23 points, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 3 threes. You never know what’s going to happen with the Wolves, but the opportunity is there for McCants. David Lee (3.8) also had another good game – scoring 22 with 11 rebounds.
Goat of the Night: Tayshaun Prince (0.8). A win against the Celtics was the Pistons’ goal, but Prince wasn’t any help getting them there. He shot 1 for 10 on the night, scoring 2 points with 2 rebounds and 1 assist. And it took him 33 minutes to get there.
Dishonorable Mentions: Kendrick Perkins (1.4). If you hurt your toe so badly in a bed accident that you have to sit out a game, that’s strike one. If you then play 36 uninspired minutes the next game, well, that’s probably more Doc Rivers fault. Still, the 5 points and 6 rebounds was reminiscent of Perkins version 2006. And it’s difficult to point fingers at any one player for Boston’s loss, but it’s all Tony Allen’s (1.4) fault. He played 5 minutes the entire game, gets completely schooled by Chauncey Billups’ pump fake with 1 second left, crashes into Billups and puts a 90% free throw shooter on the line to win the game.
