Line of the Night: John Salmons (6.4). Salmons scored a career high 32 points against the Knicks last night (of course it came against the Knicks). He also found time to chip in 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. I didn’t watch the game (my cable was out – I would have totally watched it otherwise, I swear) but it looks as if Salmons was guarded the majority of the game by Jamal Crawford who isn’t particularly known for intensity on the defensive end.

Honorable Mentions: Dirk Nowitzki (5.8) had 29/8/6 with 3 blocks. He was also 8 for 8 from the line and over 50% from the floor; Gerald Wallace (5.4) was 2 assists shy of a triple double (23, 11 and 8 ) in a loss to the rejuvenated Bulls; Ricky Davis (5.1) had 23 with 4 steals; Four threes and some other stuff for Rudy Gay (5.1); Kevin Garnett (5.0) helped Boston improve to 27-3 with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. He also shut down Yao in the fourth quarter after both Scot Pollard and Kendrick Perkins fouled out of the game; LeBron James (4.9) had a huge second half, finishing with 36/5/6 and going 9-11 from the line.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: See above. If Salmons is available in our league, you might want to pick him up and ride him until Bibby or Kevin Martin returns. He isn’t going to blow up every night like he’s playing the Knicks, but he’ll be a great source of steals while he’s getting the minutes.

Going Deep: Erick Dampier (3.9) has put two decent games together in a row and has been consistently blocking shots; Joakim Noah must have been playing last night’s game in fast forward mode, as he scored 17 points with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and a block in only 18 minutes of action.

The Miami Heat/New York Knicks Take It With a Grain of Salt Line of the Night: Brad Miller (4.8). Miller came into camp as a skinny, cornrowed wrecking machine of fury intent on doing anything and everything it took to return his game to the level it was before last season. And now, over a third of the way through the season his review is… meh. Miller’s highs are certainly higher than last year – like last night when he scored 26 and grabbed 16 rebounds – but he’s still wildly inconsistent on a nightly basis, making him a tough guy follow on your team from day to day.

Goat of the Night: Sam Cassell (1.2). Only 2 points and 2 assists for Cassell, who was 1-8 from the floor in 20 minutes against the Hornets. Expect to see his minutes heavily monitored for the rest of the season in an attempt to keep him healthy (for some kind of hypothetical Clippers run, no doubt). In other words, avoid starting him like I did this week.

    No love for Wade’s line?

Wade’s line – 27/3/8 with 4 steals – was good for 12th on the night (out of 242). So, yeah, it was good. Very, very good. I can only stretch my love so far, though.

I love seeing Gay love… Rudy Gay that is… anyway I hope I’m not the fool trying to stick with Ronnie Brewer seeing how EVERYONE is dropping him. (and yes, I know about Kyle Korver)

looks like mike conley had a good night and is taking over as a starter, at least for now. maybe waiver wire material?

@ Leonard – Not that there’s anything wrong with that… Anyway, I have to agree with everyone. I think the Ronnie Brewer we’ve seen the past two games is the one we’re probably going see the rest of the year. The combination of Harpring, Korver, and C.J. Miles creates a logjam at the 2/3 and it’ll hurt the fantasy value of all those guys. It’s the same reason why Paul Millsap is a fantasy tease that never pans out. Deep teams are great in real life, not so much for fantasy

@ gho, As a rule, I’m usually not a fan of rookies because of their inconsistency and how they usually breakdown by the end of the year. But I’ll make an exception for Conley. He got a promotion to the starting lineup, had a great game, and now Damon Stoudamire is making demands that he wants out of Memphis. I think Conley could be in for a good second half and Stoudamire won’t be back to the starting lineup anytime soon.
