Of course, the Pistons won their 11th straight game last night, but I thought the headline above was more appropriate.
Line of the Night: In a close race for line of the night, LeBron James (5.2) and Chris Paul (5.2) finished with the same game score and the same amount of points (24). Both had 5 steals. Both won their respective games. Both had a lot of assists – Paul with 13 and James with 10. But only one led their team to a victory, while the other let their bench do the heavy lifting in the fourth quarter. So the line of the night goes to the man who always finishes strong… Chris Paul. Yes, Paul had 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter as New Orleans beat Golden State 116 to 104.
Honorable Mentions: You can’t blame James for letting his teammates do some of the work after carrying them to a win against Atlanta last Wednesday; Danny Granger’s (4.9) 32 points, 9 rebounds and 5 threes may have been good for LotN on a different night; Jason Kidd (4.7) with another ridiculous triple double, 11 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists; Mike Dunleavy (4.7) went for 23 and 12 while Tyson Chandler (4.2) had 22 and 22.
Finally, I’m just barely a big enough man to give a little love to occasional GMTR whipping boy, Eddy Curry (4.2), who scored a team high 25 off 10-12 shooting and grabbed 12 boards. Yes, Zach Randolph sat because of a suspension. And yes, Curry is at his best when he doesn’t have to play with other good players. But kudos to you Curry for the solid game allowing the Knicks to keep pace with the Spurs for most of the night.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: After 3 straight games of single digit scoring, Rashad McCants (4.9) got called out by his coach and then went out and scored 34 points off 12-18 shooting (with 3 threes). A professional basketball player who lacks motivation? I can’t believe anything like that exists… It also means there is no way McCants continues to play like he did last night. Single digit scoring, here we come again.
I’m pretty much at a loss to say anything interesting about Anthony Carter (4.2), currently the starting PG for Denver. Even his Wikipedia page is sleep-inducing boring. Carter scored 16 and added a season 11 assists with 3 steals.
Why am I showing a picture of Nuggets cheerleader Amber? It’s all Anthony Carter’s fault. I was getting bored of this column myself.

Focus. Focus. Alright, Tony Allen (3.9) scored 20 points and had 3 steals and 2 threes in 25 minutes off the bench for the Celtics. It’s his second really good game out of three and he seems to be regaining a lot of his form from before he blew out his knee last year. Keep an eye on him.
Goat of the Night: Monta Ellis (1.3) got the start, shot 1-3 in 24 minutes and finished with 3 points, 0 boards and 0 assists. What happened to the guy who won the Most Improved Player Award last year? Is contract is up in the summer of 2008, so it’s not like he has a new fat contract to coast on.
Dishonorable Mentions: Gordan Giricek (1.5) is fitting in with his new team as well as his old one. His latest performance included 4 points on 2 for 11 shooting. Larry Hughes (1.7) also shot 2-11 and also finished with 4 points. It’s like suck looked into a mirror and saw its own reflection… Congrats if you managed to ride Anthony Johnson’s (1.5) one good week of play in late December. But that is long over now.
