Dibs on the Do Over. Jinx You Owe me a Coke: Yesterday, the Ministry of Commissioner Stern ruled that the Hawks and the Heat are going to have to replay the final 52 seconds of their game last month because the official scorer incorrectly ruled that Shaq had fouled out (when, in fact, the big clumsy only had 5 fouls). So, and follow my logic here, if the game is replayed and Shaq doesn’t play in it because he’s hurt, doesn’t that mean the teams have already played that exact game the first time?

Line of the Night: It’s LeBron James (6.1) by a mile – and that’s saying a lot after seeing some of the lines put up by the honorable mentions today. James was plastering his name all over the GMTR daily run down before he took some time off with an injury to his finger about a month ago. And, man, last night he delivered a line that’s going to demand its own dressing room before games. James went off for 31 points, 19 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks in a double overtime win against the Bobcats. He had 8 turnovers too, but what do you expect when he’s playing 1 on 5 against other teams?

Honorable Mentions: Gerald Wallace (5.2) scored 27 with 12 boards and 4 steals in 55 minutes of 2OT action; Kobe Bryant (5.2) fought off a “viral upper respiratory infection” a la Michael Jordan to score 37 points with 5 threes and 7 assists; Baron Davis (5.1) had 20 points and 19 assists; Pau Gasol (4.8) owners must be ecstatic to see him go for 43 points (adding 11 boards); and Chris Bosh (4.3) scored 40 with 11 boards.

Why Can’t He Do This Every Game Line of the Night: Samuel Dalembert (4.2) scored 21 points with 20 boards for the Sixers, which means we’re pretty much guaranteed to see him go for 6 and 6 against the Spurs on Monday.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: It’s been up and down for Anderson Varejao (4.2) since his return to the Cavs, but last night’s 16 points and 18 boards in 42 minutes of play looks real nice. Varejao took minutes away from Big Z, not Drew Gooden, so we’ll have to see how that plays out.

Arming Secondary Rockets: Shane Battier (4.7) had a deceptively nice line, only scoring 10 points, but adding 9 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks, and 2 threes. I wish he could just average 10 points a game. Then he might be a worthwhile pickup. Luis Scola (3.4) had 22 points and 9 boards off the bench in a blowout win for the Rockets (Ming only played 28 minutes). It’s two good games in a row for Scola, but I still wouldn’t trust him on my team.

The Miami Heat/New York Knicks Take It With a Grain of Salt Line of the Night: Bobby Jackson (4.4), backup point guard for the Hornets, actually recorded a higher game score last night than Chris Paul (4.1). Paul was no slouch himself with 16 points and 16 assists in 33 minutes. But the Hornets gang raped the Heat last night 114-88, giving Jackson the opportunity to go 7-7 for three (and 9-9 from the floor) scoring 25 points and finishing with a +/- of 42. I’ve never seen a higher +/-.

The Biggest Loser: There were plenty of bad performances to choose from last night (as always, add your own in the comments) but we’ve been entirely too nice around here to the New York Knicks lately. By this point, everyone has soured on Eddy Curry (1.4) who had 6 points and 2 rebounds in 15 minutes, but it was Zach Randolph (1.4) with the worse game. Randolph was benched after 10 minutes in the Knicks latest loss, finishing with 0 points and 1 rebound. What’s the dollar per minute rate New York is paying for the Curry/Randolph duo?

Other Stuff Like This:

  • In the non-Zach Randolph category I'll go with Brendan Haywood for getting two rebounds and putting up a grand total of 2 shots. C'mon dude.
