As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, fantasy wunderkind Andrew Bynum went down last night with one of those painful looking knee injuries. I’ve never seen a non-painful looking knee injury, but lets assume they exist. Anyway, here’s video of Bynum going down via With Malice.
After Bynum received an MRI today, the Lakers announced that he will miss at least the next eight weeks with a subluxation of his left kneecap (man, I hate when that happens). The only good news to come out of this is that he will not need surgery on his knee.
Fantasy Impact: Time to bench Bynum immediately. He’s been too good this year to drop, so Bynum owners will have to wait it out. For better or worse (I’m going to guess worse) the Lakers will turn to Kwame Brown at center. Brown was horrible after replacing Bynum against Memphis, finishing with 3 points and 6 rebounds in 25 minutes, which is not exactly an encouraging sign. If you’re in a deep league, I could see purchasing a Kwame Brown lottery ticket, otherwise just stay away. Rather than focusing on Kwame, Bynum’s injury will likely do more to increase the production of Lamar Odom and Kobe Bryant, who will pick up more of the scoring and rebound load for the Lakers over the next two months.
