Paging Dr. Marbury

I’m not sure when Stephon Marbury found the time to get his medical degree, but it appears that he will be ordering himself to go under the knife. Marbury will be receiving an MRI today after missing the Knicks’ last 3 games with pain in his foot. He told the media that if bone spurs are found on his ankle, he’ll have surgery to remove to remove them.

I have pain when I’m running up and down the court. I need surgery. I don’t understand.

Newsday.com reports that Marbury said he will be scheduling immediately after seeing Knicks’ consultant and orthopedic surgeon Dr. William Hamilton.

Fantasy Analysis: If Marbury does go ahead with surgery (no word on whether he’ll perform the surgery himself) it would put a merciful end to his season and would allow people like me - who have the audacity to still hope - to finally drop him and move on. It’s a toss up on whether Marbury has been more of a disappointment this season or last season, or if there is enough disappointment to equally cover both season like a coffin under six feet of soil and earth. One could say it’s been a fun ride off the court, but we may have seen Marbury’s last game as a Knick.

Freddie Jones has been starting in Marbury’s place, although he is splitting time with Nate Robinson. Jones has consistently shown that he should be nowhere near a fantasy team and just like clockwork, he has averaged 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2.6 assists in his past 3 starts. Robinson is a much better fantasy play. In limited minutes, he’s been averaging about 16 points, 4 assists, and 2 threes a game. Since Fred Jones is certainly not the answer, if you are in need of guard help I’d pick up Robinson if he’s still available in your league or possibly try and work a trade on the cheap. But watch out: Word has also come up that Isiah Thomas has his eye on the prize known as Mike Bibby. You can fault Thomas for a lot of things, but he usually goes out and gets the guys that he wants.
