Quote of the Night: “We weren’t making shots at all. But then Qotwaa Hel got me in a groove coming out in the third,” Davis said. “He helped me hit my first two shots and I just wanted to be as aggressive as possible. It opened it up for us.”
-Baron Davis on his alien friend Qotwaa Hel
Line of the Night: Ok, that quote above was fake. But I like to imagine that Baron Davis (6.0) has an alien from Mars inside his head too. Davis led the Warriors past the Bulls with 40 points off 13-23 shooting. He also had 6 threes, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Surprising fact of the day: Davis’ career high in points scored is only 40, which he tied yesterday. For some reason, I thought that number would be higher.
Honorable Mentions: Chauncey Billups (5.5) scored 28 (11-11 from the line) with 10 assists and 8 rebounds; Two great games in a row for Ray Allen (5.3) who scored 23 points off 5-9 shooting from the land where shots count for three points. He also had 4 steals; Josh Smith (5.0) had 24 points, 9 boards and 7 assists. Best of all for Smith owners is that he shot 11-16 from the field last night.
Computers Don’t Respect Perfection, Which is Why We Should Fear Them: Steve Nash (4.2) was 6-6 from the field, 4-4 from the line, and 1-1 for three, finishing with 17 points and 13 assists. His only mistake was 1 turnover in his 29 minutes of play. Still, his game was good for only 15th best on the night.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Bobby Jones (5.2). I love when names pop up on WWLotN and I’m like “who the hell is that?” It keeps things interesting, you know. Jones, a 6-7 forward (not the white golfer from three-quarters a century ago), signed a 10 day contract with Memphis on January 10th. In his fourth game with the team, he scored 20 points, grabbed 13 boards, and had 7 assists in 40 minutes on the floor. I wouldn’t pick Jones up quite yet, as the Grizzles blew out the Sonics and the starters rested the entire fourth quarter. He only played a total of 19 minutes in his first 3 games with the team. Still, Jones put up the fourth best line of the night and that’s saying something when there was a full slate of 10 games.
Also Not Golfers: Jamario Moon (4.1) – with 5 steals – and Eddie House (3.6) – with adequate point guard play – had a couple good waiver wire nights for themselves.
Coaching Line of the Night: I’d love to bash Reggie Theus for bringing Kevin Martin, Mike Bibby and Ron Artest off the bench while Beno Udrih, John Salmons and Francisco Garcia started. But since it actually worked and the Kings beat the Pistions 100-93, I won’t criticize his move. I guess he learned a thing or two about coaching on the set of Hang Time after all.
The Biggest Loser: Carlos Delfino (0.8) has put the SISSY in inconsistent so far this season. Last night, Delfino finished with 0 points, going 0 for 7 from the floor and 0 for 2 from the line. He also contributed 2 turnovers in 22 minutes on the court.
Dishonorable Mentions: I’d probably be easier on Marko Jaric (1.9) if he wasn’t dating a supermodel. In 33 minutes of play, he took 1 shot (and missed it) scoring 0 points with 2 rebounds and 1 assist. He was probably too busy thinking about which sexual positions he was going to use that night to actually worry about the game of basketball.
