Line of the Night: For the first time since – I’m not sure when – Zydrunas Ilgauskas (5.1) out played LeBron James (4.3) to earn LotN. Big Z shot 9-11 from the floor and finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks as Cleveland beat the Clippers 98-84. It helped Ilgauskas that Chris Kaman was a DNP, so he was guarded all night by the force of nature also known as Josh Powell.
The selfish part of me wanted to give this one to my boy Brad Miller (5.1), who had a Dwight Howard-esque 22 and 20 with 2 blocks. Miller, who I had on a couple teams ALL LAST YEAR as he uglied his way through an injury plagued season, has been playing out of his mind the past week (and has been good most of the year).
Honorable Mentions: Miller; Allen Iverson (4.9) only had 24 points off 6-19 shooting, but was helped by the 13 assists and 5 steals he put up; Tracy McGrady (4.8) scored 33 and added 11 boards and 6 assists; and Jason Richardson (4.8) went for 38 off 14-25 shooting and 6-11 for three.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: A cottage industry has opened up around Jameer Nelson and his strained foot. After missing 5 games, Nelson returned on January 30th and played limited minutes in two games before DNPing last night. In his absence, Keith Bogans (3.6) went for the WWLotN with 16 points, 4 rebounds and three assists. He was also 4-6 for three. Maurice Evans (3.5) also had that 16/4/3 line, only with 3 threes and 2 steals. And Carlos Arroyo (3.1), the man actually starting in place of Nelson, was 9-9 from the line with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Who knows how long Nelson will be out, so now is your chance to jump on Arroyo if he’s still available.
You Get it Already: This will be the last time I mention Linas Kleiza (4.3) in this spot. With Carmelo Anthony back in the Nuggets starting lineup, Kleiza came off the bench for 30 minutes and scored 23 points, adding 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.
The Chinese Super Bowl: Let’s hope the actual Super Bowl contains a better performance than the one Yao Ming (3.2) and Yi Jianlian (2.1) pulled off last night (and I wouldn’t count on Tom Petty being that performance). Ming finished with a respectable 12 points and 12 rebounds, but Jianlian shot 1 of 10 from the floor, scoring 6 points and adding 7 rebounds as Houston beat the good land of Milwaukee 91-83. By the way, check out this picture. Is that a bulge in Yi’s pants?
Fun Fact of The Day: While on the hunt for Bucks’ cheerleader pictures, I found out that the Bucks have conveniently made a desktop wallpaper of their schedule available to download. Yes! Now you never have to miss another Bucks’ game again. Personally, I’d rather go with this wallpaper.
The Biggest Loser: Aside from Yi, Nate Robinson (1.6) would be a good pick. Robinson gets the double whammy for not only having a crappy fantasy game (0-9 from the floor, 0-6 for three, 5 points) but for also missing a three at the buzzer to seal the Knicks’ fate. I was going to chastise Robinson for taking the final shot after going 0-8 in the game, but after going to the video, it was actually Zach Randolph’s fault for dribbling into a double team and then passing it to Robinson at the last second. Little Nate didn’t have much choice.
