I actually drew a “cartoon” just yesterday for Comics Under 30 Seconds. So timely. So very timely. Yes, Pau only had the 5th best line of the night with his 24 and 12, but there’s not really a better time to link to the cartoon than now, right?
Line of the Night: LeBron James tipped the scales with a monster 7.44 (and those scales come crashing down as if he’d hit Lady Justice over the head with a tomahawk jam). 7.44! I wouldn’t think that a line of 33, 9, and 12 on 11-21 (52%) would be enough to generate that kind of a fantasy rating. Especially when you add in the 7 turnovers; but nothing launches fantasy ratings into the stratosphere like good defense, and as the Giants proved once again, defense wins championships. LeBron had 5 steals and 2 blocks. Those 2 blocks were pretty much 2nd place overall on the night since Zydrunas Illy Gauskas was in 1st with 5. LeBron is now the new #2 on the season according to NBA.com, and Kobe has moved into 1st place despite shooting 3-13 last night.
Honorable Mentions: Rudy Gay (5.26) is The Man in Memphis, but his 5.26 seems positively pedestrian next to LeBron’s Lucky 7; Derek Fisher (5.10) took advantage of Kobe Bryant
’s off-night to score 28 points on 50% from the field with 4 threes; NBA.com says Ray Allen’s (5.03) ankles are still a problem, but he played 40+ for the second game in a row, and had the 4th best line.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Bostjan Nachbar (4.49) tied for 7th on the night and is available in both of the leagues I normally check for Free Agent pickups. He had 19 and 10 with 4 threes. And he only shot 63% from the field, so he just passes Patrick’s “70% anomaly” sniff test.
Charlie Villanueva (4.18) continues to mess with fantasy owners everywhere by throwing up 16 and 16 (50% shooting). Caffeine is also a drug. Just say no.
Vlad Rad (4.23) (Vladimir Radmanovic) had a decent game, but let’s remember that Kobe shot 3-13. But Pau might be opening up the LA offense to the point where everyone out there will have value because they’re getting open shots like McCain got delegates last night. (No endorsement implied)
Rodney Carney (3.95) had 16 and 6 with 3 steals. He’s not worth picking up right now, but I wanted to point out the potential there; perhaps for later in the season, and if not, then for next season.
The Biggest Loser: Obviously it was that dude who lost 13 pounds when his team had already won the weigh-in, but then, I watch too much TV. I’m tempted to go with Kobe, but I’ve already thrown out his shooting number from last night, and honestly it pales in comparison to Antawn Jamison’s (2.68). AJ was 6-23 last night, which is technically a better percent than 3-13, but it’s also 7 more missed shots, and when you’re comparing 26% to 23%, you have to go with the lower number of attempts. He did have 14 rebounds in an attempt to pick his face up off the floor, but with 0 steals and 0 blocks, the fantasy rating wasn’t having any of it.
And finally, yeah, that’s right, I made you click over to CU30S and I’m reposting the cartoon here anyway. Cause who doesn’t love pictures? But! It’s a smaller version; the full size is over at CU30S.
