Line of the Night: Manu Ginobili (5.8) and Tim Duncan (5.7). I just can’t pick one guy over the other today… “You are black…I am white…You’re as blind as a bat, and I’ve got sight. Side by side, you and me, bro, negro…” And in perfect harmony they powered the Spurs to a 98-89 win over the Hornets. Ginobili went for 30/6/12 (12 was his career high in assists) and was an efficient 10-18 from the floor, while Duncan had 25/11/6 with 4 blocks and was an even more efficient 10-16 from the floor.
Honorable Mentions: Danny Granger continues his breakout season (5.1) with 29 points, 4 threes, 5 assists, 2 steals, and a block; Dwyane Wade (5.1) went for 33/3/5 with 2 steals and 2 blocks; the incredible Josh Smith (5.1) had 30 and 12 with 2 steals and 2 blocks; and Michael Redd (4.4) scored 42 points to rally the Bucks from 23 points down to beat Denver.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Josh Boone (4.3). DeSagana Diop (who is surely still adjusting to his new role on the Nets) only played 5 minutes yesterday, and Boone took the opportunity to go absolutely gangbusters on the Pacers. He scored 19 points, grabbed 13 boards and blocked 2 shots in 30 minutes of play. Of course, Boone also shot 7-9 from the floor, so he doesn’t pass the 70% or less test, but hey, it’s still a nice game big fella.
Return of the Attack of the Point Guards 2: Marcus Williams (3.7). NBA.com called a poor follow-up to his big debut, and I agree that the shooting (2-7) wasn’t there, but anytime a guy gets 13 assists and 7 rebounds, that’s not a poor follow-up. Ride him while Harris is out (2+ more weeks). And I knew it wouldn’t be long until we saw our old friend Marcus Banks (4.0). Banks got 25 minutes off the bench for the Heat and used that time to score 17 points and hit 3 threes. If only he would learn that passing the ball is usually a skill desirable in point guards.
The Biggest Loser: It’s a tough choice between Nazr Mohammed (1.4), who was truly horrible – 5 points of 1-9 shooting – and Peja Stojakovic (2.0), who was slightly less horrible – 11 points off 3-9 shooting – but has higher expectations. Let’s go with Peja, the guy people actually have in their lineups.
