Quote of the Night: “He didn’t cooperate on any of our defenses.”
-Avery Johnson on Kobe Bryant
Line of the Night: It was only a matter of time until Kobe Bryant (5.4) threw up the fifty-spot, I just knew it. Sure, it took an overtime to get him there, but he actually shot efficiently - Kobe went 15-27 from the floor and 20-27 from the line to finish with 52 points as the Lakers beat Dallas 108-104. Kobe also had 11 rebounds and 4 assists.
Honorable Mentions: I’m not sure I’m cool with Mike Dunleavy (5.3) being this good. It was his second straight game of 36 points and he also had 4 threes, 2 steals and a block; Dirk Nowitzki (5.3) went for 30/13/5 with 2 steals and 2 blocks; at this point, it’s safe to assume that Beno Udrih (5.2) is no longer waiver wire material. Beno had 23 with 9 assists and 3 steals; Stephen Jackson (5.0) had 29 and 9 with 6 threes.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Wow, this is a first. There were about 8 waiver wire guys listed right in a row on the rater. When you find yourself in this kind of situation, there’s only one thing you can do. SPEED ROUND!
Technically, Shane Battier (4.6) had the best of the lines, leading Houston to their 15th straight win by scoring 20 off 5 threes (we like you better when you score, Battier); double-double for Kendrick Perkins (4.5) with 11 and 12 with 4 blocks; Jason Williams (4.4) scored 18 with 8 assists (we like you when you’re healthy, Jason); Chris Wilcox (4.2) had 18 points and 15 rebounds (we like you when you try, Chris); 24 points off 10-19 shooting for Anthony Parker (4.2); and, whew, Earl Watson (4.2) had 15 points and 9 assists.
Biggest Loser: Jerry Stackhouse (0.98). On a typical day, Nels and I usually wade through the bottom of the player rater and about 50 guys who only played a minute or two until we find someone with fantasy relevance. But today is not a normal day. No, today, Stackhouse had the absolute worst game score of the night, below the likes of Bobby Jones, who played 1 minute and Steve Novak, who also played 1 minute (and the list goes on). Stack, achieved this dubious honor by shooting 2-12 from the floor and finishing with 4 points, 0 rebounds, and 1 assist in 31 minutes.
Stackhouse also helped contribute to the line of the night with defensive like this:

I’m all about the 52 points, but when you lower the shoulder like that (especially with the ref right there) isn’t that supposed to be a foul?

damn, and I thought Nazr Mohammeds 17 plus minutes were the most craptastic yesterday.
I also like when Wilcox tries.

@Nels - couldn’t agree with you more. Looks like the Mamba gets to play by his own rules.
@Upstate - It’s too bad we usually see the Wilcox who doesn’t seem to give a damn, because he has talent.
