Interesting News of the Day: Looks like Shawn Marion and Mike Bibby will be allowed to suit up for the Heat/Hawks replay game. I wonder how they’ll count their stats?
Line of the Night: Ok, technically Deron Williams (4.7) didn’t have the best game score of the night (or second, or third), but Chris Paul (6.0) has gotten so much love from us here that he’s about to serve us with a restraining order. Plus, Williams had 20 assists last night and big numbers impress me. Williams led the Jazz to a 116-110 win over the Mavs with those 20 assists as well as 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. Today, Deron, you’re first in our hearts.
Honorable Mentions: Meanwhile, after wrestling a 10-foot grizzly bear to the ground with his bare hands, Chris Paul (6.0) went out and beat the Knicks single handedly in a game of 1 on 5 by a score of 100-88 (which one of those events is more believable)? Paul had a line of 27/5/8, shot 11-17, hit a couple threes, had three steals and impregnated 3 women and 1 man before the end of the first half. Jason Kidd (5.8) had a ho-hum night with 19 points, 9 assists and 3 steals; and Carlos Boozer (5.5) shot 12-19 and finished with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Louis Williams’ (4.5) minutes have been creeping upward of late. Yesterday, he come off the bench for 30 of them (Andre Miller got 28) and responded with 16 points off 7-10 shooting, 8 assists, and 1 steal. He’s still too inconsistent to really rely on, but if you’re desperate for a PG or just like young meat, he’s someone to take a look at.
Brevin Knight’s (2.8) game wasn’t anything special (8 points/7 assists), but with Sam Cassell gone, Knight will be starting until he gets hurt sometime soon.
I love it when a plan comes together: The other day I mentioned that Thaddeus Young (4.1) had 4 straight games of 2 or more steals. Well, make that 5 as Young had 2 more steals last night as he got a the start and a huge 34 minutes for the Sixers.
Biggest Loser: Everyone who talked themselves into picking up Erick Dampier (1.8) after Diop was traded away, welcome to the Erick Dampier experience! It’s a lot of fun trying to guess which games Dampier will go for 17 rebounds and which he’ll be completely craptakular in. Last night was the latter as Damp got in some early foul trouble and only played 26 minutes. He used that time to score 6 points and grab 5 rebounds (with no assists or blocks).
And who says Dirk is soft. Look at that take down.
