Day 128 of 170: The Day the Celtics Clinched a Playoff Spot

aka: The Eastern Conference has a lot of bad teams in it. And very few good ones. And some mediocre ones.

Line of the Night: On the night when Boston clinched their spot, and the Jazz won their 17th straight game, LeBron James (6.35) overshadowed both. 50 points and 10 assists will do that. Especially when one shoots 16/30 from the field with 7 three pointers. Especially when one adds 8 rebounds and 4 steals, while committing only 2 turnovers. As I mentioned in my previous post, I don’t have cable, but I’ve watched the highlights on NBA.com. That’s really the best way to watch the Cavs. I like how they threw in the interaction with Jay-Z at the end there. I just hope by the time James gets to New Jersey Brooklyn, they can assemble a better supporting cast than Cleveland. Or least one that’s more fun to watch.

Honorable Mentions: On any other night, we’d probably be hearting Chris Paul (4.67) some more with his 23 points, 18 assists, 3 threes, and 2 steals. But come on, Chris, a turnover? You’re better than that!

Oh, did someone just drop Charlie Villanueva (4.63) in your league? Might want to look again at his 32 points, 11 rebounds, 3 threes, and 2 blocks. That’s a Mid-Ball stat line if I’ve ever seen one. Teammate Andrew Bogut (4.66) also had a good night, with 21/13/7, 2 steals, and 4 blocks.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Luther Head (4.04) came in at number 11 last night with 14 points (4 threes) on 5/5 shooting, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. I’m not sure he’s worth a pick-up, but if you’re one of those fantasy owners who’s constantly searching for the next naked cheerleader hot hand to pick up, then he’s worth a look.

Other than that you’ve got the inconsistent Jared Dudley (3.87) who’s been getting some extra minutes since Gerald Wallace hit the deck (for the 4th time people! This is why I won’t draft him). Dudley can get you some big man type rebounds, and he’s been making a three a game in the past 3 games.

The Biggest Loser: As we know, Boston clinched a playoff spot, and Rajon Rondo’s (1.78) 16 points probably helped the cause. But his 6/16 shooting and 5 turnovers certainly did not. The 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 0 steals, and 0 blocks didn’t do much to offset the other numbers. It’s kind of odd when someone can get 16 points and still be considered for Biggest Loser, but if you have a better idea, let me know in the comments.

What Are People Talking About?

  • Henry
"That’s really the best way to watch the Cavs."

    STFU
  • Dudley has been playing studley for quite some time now. Pick him up if you need a player in his position!
  • But Rondo had that great drive past Rip where he abused him and took it to the hoop? He can't be the biggest loser! Just looking at my teams, Wally Szczerbiak sucked it up pretty hard, but then again who's relying on Wally World on the fantasy teams? Oh, wait.
  • ...their fantasy teams.

would have been funnier the first time.

And Nels, you are the hardest working man in blogging today. Three good sized posts in one day? You're making tired just reading.
  • If Rondo had gotten himself concussed like Gerald Wallace, then he really would have been the biggest loser. As it were, I had a hard time since most of the bad performances were by bad players. I'll go with you on Wally World though.
  • Seriously... anyone else having problems with the comments? I had to type that one 5 times before it showed up. I took a bunch of words out of the blackhole filter and moved them to the much nicer moderation filter to see if it would make a difference... I think it just means I'm going to have to moderate a lot more.
  • I'm not messing with you, but I've never once had a problem getting my comments to show up.
