Line of the Night: Compared to yesterday, it’s not a banner day for the LotN. Nothing against Chauncey Billups (5.1) and his 34 points off 9-12 shooting and 13-14 from the line, but those 2 rebounds and 4 assists (0 steals and blocks) don’t exactly get me all lathered up. However, Chauncey could probably care less because he led the Pistons past the Bulls 116-109 and clinched a playoff spot for Detroit with that win.
Honorable Mentions: Nels has mentioned before that the player rater loves the D, but today best lines are all about the offense. Pau Gasol (4.8) went for 25/7/9 with a couple of blocks (I know blocks aren’t offense, I’m just getting warmed up); Steve Nash (4.7) had a lot of assists and shot the ball well; Ben Gordon (4.6) led the Bulls with 27 points and shot 10-12; and welcome to the big boys table Beno Udrih (4.6), 25 points and 10 assists (including two big free throws to win the game for the Kings) is enough to get you a seat today.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Yesterday, I predicted the WWLotN would go to Thaddeus Young, but it’s actually a rookie of a different species (almost literally) in Spencer Hawes (4.6). Hawes actually got more play yesterday than starter Brad Miller (23 minutes to 22) and put together the better game, with 14 points off 7-11 shooting, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. Miller has gone so far as to say he’s drained physically, so Hawes could have some real value if Miller were to take some time off.
Biggest Loser: With 1 point off 0-6 shooting in 23 minutes, Michael Finley’s (1.3) game was really, really bad. But if we’re looking for someone with fantasy relevance, than the worst of the night goes to Leandro Barbosa (1.9). Barbosa, who was probably nervous playing in front of the sexy Cindy McCain, shot 3-13 and finished with a line of 10/4/0 in 28 minutes.
