Line of the Night: It was huge night for Carmelo Anthony (6.7). He scored 47, going 19-24 from the field and 6-6 from the line, 11 boards, 3 steals and 3 threes. So, who cares that the Nuggets lost to the Kings dropping them into a tie for the 8th seed in the West. Carmelo had 47!

Honorable Mentions: Kevin Martin (5.3) was perfect from the line (in 13 attempts) and his 36 points overcame Carmelo’s 47; the Turkish assassin Hedo Turkoglu (5.0) went for 23/5/5 with deuces (threes/steals/blocks); and Vince Carter (4.8) had 32/7/5 with a couple steals and a block.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Part of Toronto’s problem this season can be tied to the fact that Rasho Nesterovic (4.7) is their most talented center. Still, credit where it’s due – the big man finished with 22 and 14 with 3 blocks.

With the Kings starters banged up again, re-enter the dynamic duo of Francisco Garcia (4.1) and John Salmons (3.8). Garcia scored 29 in 34 minutes while Salmons was a much less successful 3-12 from the floor (but he did have 6 assists and 5 steals). Artest is currently day-to-day and it’s looking more and more like Beno Udrih is done for the rest of the year. Also, Spencer Hawes (2.8) started in place of a DNPed Bra Miller and threw up an uninspiring 8 point 9 rebound performance. Miller is also day-to-day.

Is It Ok to Sit an Entire Team? Yesterday, the Celtics finally relented and rested KG and Ray Allen (with Pierce missing the game to witness the birth of his child – pretty lame excuse if you ask me). That meant we got to see a lot of James Posey (3.7), Leon Powe (3.6), Eddie House (3.4) and the results weren’t as horrific like you’d imagine an Eddie House led team to be. Posey scored a season-high 19 points, House had 16, and Leon Powe, the poor man’s Ryan Gomes, had 22 and 9. Expect more of the same while the Celtics play out the rest of their meaningless games.

The Biggest Loser: By this point in the season, Jason Richardson (2.0) owners know to expect games like this from him every blue moon. Richardson was 4-12 from the field and 1-7 from three. He scored 9 points with 1 rebound and 4 assists as the Bobcats got torched by the Celtics backup squad.

Dishonorable Mentions: Josh Childress’ (1.2) game was pretty pathetic yesterday as he played 26 minutes and scored 2 points with 1 rebound and no threes, assists, steals, or blocks; and not only was Joakim Noah (1.4) 1-4 from the field and 5-12 from the line yesterday, but his counting stats – 2 boards and 1 assist – sucked hard as well. Good thing no one out there is actually relying on him, right?

Other Stuff Like This:

  • It was a joke more about their respective roles with the Celtics (as discussed here) rather than a comparison of their games. I actually like Leon Powe quite a bit. I'm glad he's finally getting some play from Doc Rivers.

So how exactly is Leon Powe a "poor man's Ryan Gomes"?? Do you even watch Celtics games? Their games are totally different. And for what the Celtics need, I'll take Leon Powe all day.
  • kevin, with you’re team as it currently stands, I don’t think you need any of my advice to win the league. AI, Kobe, Howard, Granger, etc? That is a nice, nice team. But, if you’re going to make a move, it looks like you have assists wrapped up with AI, Bibby, and Ford, so one or both of Quinn or Udrih is expendable. It’s expected that Udrih will be back for Tuesday game, but he’s still a risky play. I wouldn’t feel comfortable sticking him out there and hoping for the best. I thought about Powe myself for next week, but the Celtics only have 3 games and if KG plays in any of them, then Powe loses a lot of his value. Stevenson would be a safe pickup, although the Wizards only have 3 games next week as well. One guy I picked up for my team today was Francisco Garcia. A little risky, but I’ve had good luck with him this year. Also, if you’re looking for some size, there is always Mikki Moore or even Rasho Nesterovic. Sounds crazy, but look at this game log…

    Good luck next week man.

So I'm heading into the finals in a 9 cat league, looking at my waiver wire, Rip, Kaman, Stevenson, Jack, Powe, House are all available. I've got Young, Quinn and Udrih oh my team right now and they're expendable. I was thinking about picking up Stevenson + Powe for Young and Quinn/Udrih. Quinn has been putting up some solid numbers for the crappy heat, and Udrih... Well I know what he can do but the injury has been a little concerning.
I've got a smallball lineup (AI, Kobe, Josh Howard, Granger, Dunleavy, Bibby, Ford, Okur, Perk, along with Young, Quinn and Udrih)

with 3pts, FT%, Pts, Ast, Stl being my strong cats

Who do you guys think would be the best pickups heading into the finals?

Thanks for all the great advice guys
