800lb… you are correct and I should have thought about that since most of the rest of the team is the same. And finally, we have some proof that players actually do get worse after playing for Team USA in the summer. Redd’s FG% dropped by 2%, his all-important 3s went down by 0.4, and his scoring went down by 4 points per game. On the other hand, his rebounds per game increased by 0.6 and his assists went from 2.3 to 3.4.

Of course, now that the Bucks have traded for Richard Jefferson, the fact that Redd is playing in China seems much less important.

Yes, the old fail to reject the null hypothesis results. It has happened many a time to me as well. Fortunately, blogs are the perfect place for that kind of rigorous analysis.

I kind of thought about doing that analysis, but 2 things stopped me.

1) I wanted to get this post up while people were still talking about the Olympic Team roster announcement, and

2) I didn’t really see any evidence one way or the other while doing my analysis, which kind of led me to believe that there really isn’t as much of an effect as maybe people think, thereby making the whole post kind of a moot point. So, I pulled a shady-scientist type move and just decided to put the post up.

Good topic by the way Nels. I’d like to see someone do a study on the Olympics to see if players are affected negatively by the extra wear and tear in the summer. And if so, is it worse for older players? Guys who play more minutes? Guys who have a history of injuries? We tend to just assume that it isn’t good.
