Introducing the GMTR Big Board

Well, Nels has finally gone and done it. GMTR now has a Big Board, and it’s 4 times as big as Yahoo’s Big Board. If Yahoo and GMTR were male porn stars, we’d be John Holmes, snorting cocaine off the backs of truck stop toilets and turning tricks to support our habits… or… you get the point.

So, the GMTR Big Board is up and running for your browsing/critique. Nels and I each ranked players from 1 to 200+ and then averaged our rankings together to create one all-powerful super-score. Or as Nels put it, 2 become 1.

You might be wondering how this relates to fantasy basketball and 2 becoming 1. Just go with it.

The board will be updated throughout the summer and regular season. And since it’s still so early in the free agent season, expect some more clarity in the board as teams and player roles get fleshed out. Until then, enjoy our wild ass guesses on how valuable players will be, especially in the lower 100 of the board.

where is McGrady on your big board? I assume you must have left him off for a reason?
otherwise, pretty solid big board imo... good stuff gents.
  • Primarily because he can't shoot, although 40 might be a bit harsh for Smith. He's young and is going to get better.
  • J Smoove at 40? Assuming the percentages knock him down a bit? Or are we forecasting a move from ATL?
  • Henry, in fairness, Nels ranked Lebron at 3 and Garnett above Marion, so it appears your beef is with me.

Lebron's FT% is a killer and it will continue to be unless he takes steps to improve it (which doesn't appear to be high on his global icon priority list). He finished last year ranked #5 on the rater (primarily due to the FT% and TOs) and I ranked him at #4 (behind Paul, Kobe, and Amare). I honestly believe, if he stays healthy, that's where he finishes next year.

I don't feel quite as strongly about Marion/Garnett. I had KG ranked above Marion at first, but switched them at the last minute because I think with a healthy Wade on a non-tanking team, Marion will play a whole lot better than he did to finish the year on the Heat. We know exactly what were going to get from KG this year and I think Marion's upside is a little higher. Marion was the best fantasy player in the league as little as 2 years ago.

Camby's recent health and performance speaks for itself, although he does have less value in leagues that don't count turnovers. That is a point that we should have made.

Tunez. I could have described the board a little better. The first column labeled "Rank 08-09" is the average score of Nels and I. The players are also sorted in the order of that score.

And oh yeah, there is definitely going to be another Ultimate Fantasy Buffett this season. I had a lot of fun doing that last year.

    Also,

Can we look forward to another Ultimate Fantasy Buffett this year?

    Which ones the super score?
  • Henry
I can see CP as #1, but Lebron at 4/5? No way. And Marion above Garnett? Camby above Al Jefferson/Bosh/Carmelo?
