Here’s the AP article with quotes from players and talk about impact on the teams involved.

Points in the Paint focuses on the PGs in the trade, and while the PGs are certainly the most important, I think overlooking Joe Smith in this trade is a fault. While Smith won’t be high on anyone’s fantasy hit list, he is still a decent PF, and could be a valuable Free Agent pick up during the season. PitP talks a lot about Mo Williams, so you should read that, and then he hits this money quote about Loo Rid and Earl Watson:

Luke Ridnour and Earl Watson – These guys were competing for playing the time last couple of years like 40 year old virgins at a party at the PLAYBOY mansion.

I’ve always like Luke, but the Bucks are stupid if they don’t let Ramon Sessions start, at least at the beginning of the season. They also picked up Damon Jones in the trade and Tyronn Lue as a Free Agent, so the backup PG spot is going to be a mess.

Hoops Fantasy’s Stephen Kersey has a quick, balanced analysis.

Here’s my take, basically Mo Williams was right at the edge of the Top 50 fantasy players. That won’t change up or down, really. Ridnour will continue to wallow in fantasy obscurity unless Sessions gets injured or can’t perform. Desmond Mason is always a pretty big question mark. Kevin Durant and Jeff Green are not going to give up enough minutes for Mason be worth drafting, and he doesn’t really provide any unique stats that you’ll want to fill holes in your lineup. Joe Smith, as I mentioned, could be a decent bench fantasy player if Nick Collison or Chris Wilcox get injured (or if OKC decides to give him more time than Collison).

Over at RotoReference they’re saying that DJ and Ridnour are going to compete for the starting PG spot in Milwaukee. Does anyone here agree with that? I mean, Ramon Sessions had 7.5 assists in 26 minutes. Now, Ridnour can be decent, but even Tyronn Lue is a better PG option than Damon Jones if you want to actually do something like run an offense.

I think this trade makes Mo a little more valuable than he was before. If he stayed with the Bucks, he might well have lost a few minutes per game to Sessions this year. With the Cavs, I get the sense he’s The Man at the point.

My guess is that the “DJ and Ridnour are going to compete for the starting PG spot” talk is just PR, and Sessions is already penciled in at starting PG. They wouldn’t have traded Williams otherwise.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned about this trade is regarding the schedules of the Bucks and Cavaliers. The Bucks have a great schedule up through mid-January – the only 4 game week in week 1, and 10 4-gamers the first 14 weeks. Of course, this means they end the season horribly and they end the season with a 2-2. Cleveland on the other hand, has only 3 4-game weeks the first 12 weeks and has a great schedule for March and April.

Williams’s stats should be the roughly the same for the year as if he were on Milwaukee. He just now moves from a better beginning of the year play to a better end of the year play. And Sessions went from a late-late round sleeper/early season waiver pickup to someone more on people’s radar.
