While I’m not ready to condone this sort of thing, but PASPN.net has a Mock GM Game for those who need to play some fantasy basketball during the off-season. (FYI: PASPN is the PistonsASsemblyLine forum website – it doesn’t stand for anything)

I’m not sure exactly how it works, but the gist is that you opt to be either a GM or an Agent and then proceed to do what each of those people does: signing, trading, managing, or getting your players the most money possible.

The question that immediately sprang to my mind was: How do you determine who GMed or Agented the best during the off-season? The answer is actually much more straightforward than the PASPN FAQs make it seem:

What happens after the offseason? How is a winner determined?

After the offseason month comes the Mock GM Regular season where GMs compete in an 18-week regular season. GMs play 9 home games and 9 away games which include 8 division games (4 division rivals twice), 4 conference games (non-divisional opponents) and 6 out-of-conference games. 8 teams from each conference will make the playoffs and compete for their league championship.

Agents on the other hand compete with each other to see who’s clients produced the most fantasy points during the 18-week season. Their points are determined by clients points only when they are in a GMs lineup throughout each game week. Essentially, Agents do not have to do anything but make sure they GMs in their league play their clients when they are suppose to play. In addition agents are measured by the contract worth of their clients, and how much they made in agency commisions from player signings and buyouts.

Really, the short answer is, you have an 18-week fantasy season during the regular fantasy season. It works pretty much just like normal fantasy basketball. So, really, it is kind of the best of both worlds.

I’m way too busy right now to think I could do this (I really want to try it, though). If anyone else has heard of it and/or tried it out, feel free to leave a comment with your opinion.
