FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I’m not sure how many people actually visit the web site part of this web site (as opposed to following via RSS)… so maybe a lot of GMTR readers haven’t notice the updated links in the right sidebar. If you are one of those dutifully uninformed, let me run it down for you:

Oh, sorry… did you think this site was just all about writing ridiculously long player preview guides which won’t really actually help you during your draft? Well print out the spreadsheets listed above (on draft day, to make sure you have all the most recent changes), and you’ll be properly armed to enter the war room. As “they” say, Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.

And as always, you are encouraged to “provide feedback” aka criticize aka point out mistakes in any of the above.

Finally, if there’s one thing getting all these emails about the Draft Guide has taught me, it’s that people do like getting some cheerleader and/or dance pics. And I just looked, the last one of those was on July 16. What has happened to this blog????

Well, evidently the Knicks City Dancers concluded their auditions at least somewhat recently, and perhaps more importantly, one of them was on So You Think You Can Dance? – which may be the only reality show that I don’t watch. Anyway, in honor of Courtney making the Final Four…

whats the chances of a readers league again this season? if having an extra league didnt take up too much time last season, id enjoy having the oppurtunity to try to get in to your guys league again this season.

or...possibly doing a mock draft that readers participate in?

your GMTR draft guide was insanely deep. There was one page with three guys who had no business being on there lol. It was the jared dudley page. It made me think of a Mitch Hedberg joke.

"I saw a human pyramid once. It was very unnecessary."
  • terrance, the Readers League is going to happen. I haven't told Patrick, but I'm assuming since he won the last one, he'll be in it again.

Good idea about the mock draft. I'll have to think about how that could be made non-chaotic, though... I wonder if the GMTR Facebook Page could serve that function?

Oh, by the way, there's a GMTR Facebook Page now. Cause I know everyone is on Facebook. Whether you want to admit it or not.
  • T-Time
Biedrins and O'Neal before Okur and Kaman???

    Really???
  • T-Time
And Ronnie Brewer before Mike Miller?

I love your site guys but wtf is going on here?
  • Well, I can't speak for Patrick, but I have O'Neal after all those guys at 71, but when you average my skepticism with Patrick's optimism, he comes out ahead. As for Biedrins, I feel that he's okay ahead of Kaman since he won't have Marcus Camby on the floor with him for the majority of his minutes. And I only put Okur five spots behind Biedrins, which in a 12 team league is less than half a round.

As for the Shooting Guard slash Small Forwards... I have Brewer and Miller at 63 and 64 respectively, so they're pretty much exactly the same except I think Brewer has a better steals, which are more rare than the threes at which Miller excels. Patrick only has them 3 positions apart, so they average out to only 2 spots difference...

ronnie was having a career yr last yr until korver came to town. since then his minutes has taken a hit. that's why i'm wary of him.. he's not guaranteed 30min of playing time.

hey i wana participate in a mock draft and the readers league again too hehe.

suggestion on the position rankings: don't have the positional tiers side by side at the same level. for example it gives the impression that the nash tier of pgs, should be picked after oden or melo (coz of the coloring thing).

how about moving some of the tiers down literally (and maybe dividing some of them further), for example the 2nd tier of centers will end at Row 2, then there's a blank space, and then you begin again at Row 9. Just to give the impression that the nash tier of pgs, are still better than the duncan tier of c's.
  • dyeyk2000, I added a new sheet: Position Rankings Alt just now. I'm not sure if it's what you want, and I think it is of questionable value. Perhaps you can take a look and tell me if what I did was what you'd envisioned.

I'm just worried the way it looks on there, people are going to think they should take a 7th tier Center before they look at the 9th tier Point Guards, when really, it's just that there's less good Centers and the 3rd - 7th tiers of Cs have 27 players, whereas the 3rd - 7th tiers of PGs only have 14.
  • As for Brewer, in March, he played 28.5 minutes per game, and while he wasn't as good as he was in November, he wasn't completely off (and, actually, his FG% went up 10 points on the same number of shot attempts). He's not guaranteed 30 minutes, but I am guessing he'll continue to get 25-28, especially since it will be only his 3rd year in the league.

I am thinking that Miller probably won't be getting 35 minutes per game in Minesota with Corey Brewer and Rodney Carney both behind him. I just don't see why they would have traded for Carney when they already had Miller and Brewer unless they intended to give him at least some PT.

Nels, sent you guys an email. sent a sample file as well. tell me what you guys think.

also.. fantasy basketball cafe had a pretty good mock draft just a few ago. maybe you can add this to the mock draft roundup:

reader mock-maybe open a google spreadsheet and open it to whomever you give the password to? not sure if that would work, but may be the easiest solution.

setup 12 teams, a list of players available to draft and then erase the playrs name after theyre drafted or type their name with a line through it. probably better ways, just a thought

i dont see amare, chris paul, dirk or kobe on fantasy cafe. maybe their league settings are different than the standard 9 cat on yahoo
  • terrance
and obviously, those four are just the beginning. theres too many players to name that seem out of position at the spots they were taken
  • terrance
ok, nevermind. i see what i did
  • Yeah, they did separate Eastern Conference and Western Conference drafts. And interesting idea, but pretty hard to combine the two into a single cohesive mock draft.
  • Let me just say, awesome job with the spreadsheets, Nels. I take no credit for his hard work there. And to recap all the questions asked:

Oh, yeah, I'm definitely up for the Readers' League again this year. I have a title to defend and I'm not going down easy.

We should get a readers' mock draft up and running. The more stuff we get to do with you guys, the better.

Everyone can blame me for GMTR being so high on O'Neal. I personally think the change of scenery is going to do wonders for the guy and his motivation. When he's healthy, he's a 20 and 10 guy and better than Biedrins, Okur, and Kaman.

Kaman in particular I think is going to be a disappointment this year. If you look at his per minute rebounding numbers, they are much worse when Brand was on the floor with him. Camby is going to make him look even worse. Draft at you're own risk, in my opinion.

Brewer would be on my list of breakout players this season. He's in his third year and has got appreciably better each one. But, you do bring up a good point about Korver, dyeyk2000. I'll have to look into that a little bit more.
  • How about an all bloggers league? How does one get to join the readers league?
  • dyeyk2000
ok guys, my bad. didn't mean to link to that fantasy mock draft. didn't notice that it was an all east/west only draft.

    here's the correct link:

  • That looks much better.

20th!!! (what is the comment record for GMTR?)

i'd be down for a mock draft. and the reader's league.
  • terrance
if we do a reader mock, would it be possible for a sentence or two about the pick? if the drafters were up to it? Why they made the pick and what they expect from the pick?
  • I'm pretty sure the comment record is right around 69. Hahahahahahhaahhahah!

Whoa. 8th grade moment right there.

22 might be a record... who knows? And more importantly, who's going to try to find out? Not me.
  • Doneycat
I'd be up for a reader mock and/or league as well, because the readers here have a lot of good opinions and visions.
  • dyeyk2000
@terrance - that would be great man! i'm up for it.

let's get it rolling already! haha
  • As I've said at least once so far, there will be a readers' league. I don't even think Yahoo is open for fantasy basketball yet, though, so we've still got a little while to decide on how we're going to do that.

We're also working on the mock draft thing... hoping to start this week.
