Terrance,

I'm with you on your point near the end of your "long winded post" - it did have substance, btw.

"Get who you want.
Temper it with getting some good values guys.
Be a bit flexible with your strategy and it's possible to both have fun and be and end up with a winning team." - This will pretty much be my motto/mantra for this season's drafts.

As far as I'm concerned, drafting is HALF the fun of playing Fantasy Basketball.

Cheers!

bucko. i hear you. was just trying to make an arguement for someone other thank dirk.

Everyone has their own H2h strtegy, but here is something to read. TO's and Assists have a direct correlation like no other H2H stat. If you punt To's, you can remain strong in assist. If you Try to be a low TOs team/high assists team, then youd have to grab something like these three to remain a stong assist team and remain low in TOs.

CP3
Jose Calderon
Chauncey billups

Those three are the best low TO/high assists PGs out there.

I know nobodys saying to completly draft a team of low TOs, but IMO, you have to aim for catagories to be your rock every week. In H2h, you cant dominate every catagory because you have other teams trying to dominate in specific catagories. Most newbies try to get pts, 3s, ast, reb. So Ill gladly take what they dont care about and a little of what they do care about. Then try to build a team of 5-4 6-3 wins every week that wont lose any worse than 4-5.

Not to mention, most of us vets know where to grab specific positions and players from year to year. Most of us know not to grab a SF unless its a steal for that round or hes an Elite SF to build your team around. Theres so manyswingmen in the league, and theres not that much of a differnce between paul pierce in the 3th and corey maggette in the 5th. So IMO, I grab a big or PG, depending on best player available. Like all drafts, youre throwing dice though, so if you want them, get them. Chances are someone else is looking at him to.

I took David Lee last year with pick 70, a little high, but I wanted him. Him and boozer were the only two players who remained on my team from my draft. I flipped my team, I had to. Point is, get who you want, if you hold out, the "maybe he'll be there next round" draft strategy wont cut it. If you miss 3-4 players you had your eye on in a matter of 2 rounds, it really starts messing with your head. You feel like your draft is FUBAR. After all, draft day is one of the best days of the year for most of us. I know that sounds lame, but i enjoy it more than most holidays. Draft day is the equivlant of being 8 years old runing down the stairs to open up a present that turns out to be a Nintendo Entertainment System. So dont mess up your present, by getting a Sega Genesis when you really wanted a Nintendo.

Yeah, i have no idea where this post went. Im not going to proof read it, but im sure there has to be something of substance in this long winded post

Reply to Terrence:
"That was without TO of course, but if yr in a H2H league, wade has to jump up the draft boards as you could punt wades TOs and have a top 5 player you got at pick 9 or so"

I don't think punting TOs is a good idea in H2H. With Injuries and many of the top players being high TO guys and those players being spread around your league, it just doesn't make the most sense strategy-wise. With Wade if you are looking to punt a category I would go with threes. He is tempting to take at five, but there are still players with similar value that aren't as much of a risk.

The higgs boson will show us the way...

By the way, there is one and only one correct answer for the 5th pick: Pau and Marc Gasol's middle brother: Fredo Gasol.

@ terrance – Believe it or not, I just realized that TD qualified at center (sorry guys – where do I hand in my “fantasy expert” badge?). I’m actually going to move him up a few spots on the big board because of that. Like Nels said, TD is in the slow decline phase, but he’ll still be solid and dependable for a few more years, especially in H2H leagues.

So, yes, we do take position into account when ranking players and I’d agree, that given the choice between a C or PG and a SG or SF at the same talent level, you have to go with the PG or C. But positions only matter up to a point, and I’d have to disagree with you a little about VC versus Stephen Jackson argument. They were fairly close in value last season, but VC had a bit of an off year scoring wise, while Jackson was off the charts compared to the rest of his career. Going forward, you’d expect each of them to regress a little towards their respective means, so I’d expect VC to be a good deal more valuable than Jackson. But your point stands, given the choice between VC and say Jose Calderon or Tim Duncan, grab the player at the more scarce position and you’ll be able to find a SG later in the draft who does 90% of what VC does.

also, i think we'll have to use the power of the hadron super collider to find a time when we can all sit down and do a draft.

Terrance, about the Big Board: I'm not that high on TD right now. Yeah, he's an FC which gets me hot and bothered, but the only good thing about his numbers last year was a slight bump in Rebounds and a decrease in the amount he hurts your FT%. I think he's at the start of a slow decline, but I still have him ranked at 28 which is where he ended up last season.

Second thing: If you look at the Full Court Press Mock Draft on the Mock Draft Roundup, you'll see that someone did actually pick Elton Brand at #5. Hmmmmmmmm... what kind of crazy person would do that? That's almost as risky as declaring Gilbert Arenas a #1 overall pick last year.
