Thanks guys. I like small ball, personally. I am also assuming that Nowitzki is gone at #5. Brand and Garnett are likely going to be there, but I see Marion as better than Garnett and both better all around than Brand. Believe me it took me a while to whittle it down to Marion and Wade.

I'd plug Marion in at PF and hit the rest of the lineup small. Still thinking.

If it's between Marion and Wade, that means someone took Brand, Garnett, or Dirk at number 5. Does that matter? Not really, just thought I'd mention it.

Some of this depends on personal preference for Small Ball or Big Ball. I tend to like picking Big Ball, so I'd go with Marion and then get a scoring big, like Bosh, Boozer, or Jefferson in the second. If David West fall to the 3rd (which could happen in a 10 team league), then you're looking really good. I also like multi-position players, and with Marion you have a Yahoo-eligible general F, and then you can get Bosh, Boozer, or Jefferson as an FC, and then you're set for at least one of your Center positions. I know Wade is a G, but there's a lot of Big Ball GFs you can get to fill in at SG and G. The hardest pick, of course, will be your PG, but if you've loaded up on big men, then you can pick up someone like Rajon Rondo in a later round to fit with your Big Ball steez.

If you prefer to do Small Ball, then Wade is the choice. While I see less good Small Ball options in the second round of a 10-team draft, there's still enough to choose from an not be completely lost.

Mike,

I had the #6 pick in the GMTR draft and I took Wade. I’ll freely admit, his play before and during the Olympics had a lot to do with it. It’s usually not a good idea to be swayed by Olympic/summer league ball, but the things that lured me were his FG%, his ability to get to the line, and his steals numbers, all of which I see as carrying over. Now Wade will turn it over (hopefully not at last year’s level), but he is PG-eligible on Yahoo with enough assists to let you go a variety of ways with your guards – either a punt-TO strategy, say grabbing Iverson, or lock-down assists (trying to get Billups and Calderon) with a 3PG guard lineup, or all scoring guards.

Marion is going to be the lowest scoring guy you take in the 1st round, so either embrace it like Bucko (his next picks in the 12-team GMTR mock are Camby, Rasheed, then grabbing Kirilenko and Moon later), go opposite and nab a PG with pts, asts, and high TO’s (Nash or D. Williams), nab a scoring big, or multiply with another SF like Butler or Josh Smith. I like Marion at #6 in a 10 teamer like yours a little more than in a 12 teamer because you’ll have a lot more of these options open – 4 more top notch players still on the board.

And truth be told, I’m not a Marion guy this year. I’m not worried about injuries, but I did not like his Miami splits last year, and there are no guarantees his FT% will come back up. Plus, there were games in Phoenix last year where he didn’t show up offensively. The defensive stuff won’t go away though, which is nice. We don’t know what the Beasley effect will be. In the FCP (roto) mock, I had a choice between KG and Marion at number 7 (Patrick took Shawn #8) and I took KG because Boston’s roster hasn’t changed and I think his numbers will be very similar to last year. Again, it’s a personal preference, but Matrix or Wade at #6 in 10 team H2H will be an excellent pick. Hope that muddles things for you.

Hey guys. Andre the Giant never pulled it off as well as the two of you. Draft question...

I play in a very competitive 10 man, 9-cat, H2H league every year and I'm up 6th in the upcoming draft. I've been mulling Shawn Marion with that pick, but I've got some reservations about the numbers. What made him a #1 type guy was his all around game, percentages and turnovers included. We don't know what he's likely to do with Miami, without Nash, and seemingly unhappy about his contract situation.

I've also been mulling over Dwyane Wade with that pick. Part of me thinks he'll be back to his 2005-2006 championship form, and potentially better, but the injury thing is out there big time. Plus, no threes. The mock draft that you guys have up in the linkroll shows that everyone picked Marion at 6, but you guys went Wade, since Marion went 5th. If Marion hadn't been off the board at 5, would you have picked him over Wade and why?

Thanks for your help...
