Day 8 of 170: Dirk-a-licious

Line of the Night: Dirk (0.90) may have had a fairly Epic Fail against Cleveland, he came back against the Spurs with 30/7/3 (PTS/REB/AST) on 54% of 24 field goal attempts, and added 2 threes and a steal. Eliminate the brain fart games and we’ve got a fantasy MVP candidate.

Honorable Mentions:
Ray Allen (0.85) took over for Boston last night, scoring 29 points on 73% from the field. Somehow, he managed to only hit 2 threes, but his 5 rebounds and 5 assists to only 2 turnovers got his fantasy rating up there. What didn’t get his fantasy rating up there was the lack of defense. I guess that just shows how solid the rest of his game was, because usually the easiest way to jump the fantasy order is to get a ton of blocks and/or steals. But since when has Ray Allen ever done anything the easy way?

Raja Bell (0.84) on the other hand, had a more Ray Allen looking line with 22 points off of 6 three-pointers. He shot 77% but only took 9 shots (6 of which we know were threes) compared to Allen’s 15.

Jason Kidd (0.80) had a near triple-double by making 3 threes for 9 points, getting 8 rebounds and dishing 10 assists. If he hadn’t only made those 3 threes, he might have had a double double.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Jianlian Yi (or vice versa) had a 0.54 after going for 15/8/1 with a three, a steal, and 2 blocks. So, he’s 2/3 so far in good games. Worth keeping an eye on, and probably worth picking up if you’ve got an garbage spot on your bench right now (or maybe if you’ve got Grant Hill as one of your Forwards).

Roger Mason (0.21) had a decent game with 11/2/2 and 2 threes. Interesting that he had almost 30 minutes for the Spurs while Tony Parker only had 29. It was a blowout game, and I wouldn’t think the Spurs are going to get blown out that often, so I’m going to recommend that you not pick up Mason just yet. I was more interested by the fact that the Spurs played Mason and Parker together for at least 11 minutes, while Bruce Bowen only played 12 minutes.

The Biggest Loser: Yao Ming (-0.44) is probably the biggest (vertically) Biggest Loser you can get. He ended with only 8 points and 7 rebounds last night after shooting 28.6% from the field and taking NO free throws (ouch!). No assists, steals, or blocks were recorded in his stats last night either. Looks like the Celtics defense is as strong as ever.
