Line of the Night: Both Jason Kidd (1.1) and Dwyane Wade (1.08) fell one assist short of a triple double last night. Wade had 33 points, 10 boards and 9 assists as the Heat cruised to a victory against the team formerly known as the Spurs. Kidd had 22/10/9 with 6 threes, but missed a free throw with 21 seconds left in the game which would have tied things up.
But, this being the game WE play, Kidd just edges out Wade for the LotN.
Honorable Mentions: When Mike Bibby’s (0.97) shot is falling, good things happen, like the Hawks improving to 4-0 on the season. It’s also good for Bibby’s stat line (19/3/12 with 5 threes). Michael Beasley (0.95) is showing everyone why he was the first rookie to go in nearly all drafts with a 20 and 8 last night. He also chipped in 2 steals and 2 blocks. No almost-triple-double for Chris Paul (0.84). You owners have to settle for 10 assists and 6 steals. Chris Kaman (0.8) put up a 23 and 11 in ANOTHER Clippers loss and Antawn Jamison (0.78) had 24 and 12 in ANOTHER Wizards loss.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Not the greatest day for waiver wire lines. After running out to see if Roger Mason (0.4) is available, you could check out Jeff Green (0.63), who had 22 points in 40 minutes for da thunda. And while he didn’t do too much else, he could be a good add simply cause he’s going to get a large quantity of minutes.
Josh Boone (0.59) – with a season high 35 minutes – had 18 and 14 for the Nets. Anderson Varejao (0.56) went for a career-high 18 points and had 8 boards to help lead the Cavs over the Pacers. Ok, not so much lead as slightly help LeBron James. And…. Chris Quinn (0.53) is back if you need PG help in deep leagues.
The Biggest Loser: Tony Parker (-0.53) and Josh Smith (-0.45) owners. Parker sprained his left ankle in last night’s San Antonio/Miami game is expected to be out 2-4 weeks. That’s quite the kick in the balls right after he rained down 55 points the other night. In the meantime, Roger Mason is your man if he’s still available. Or possibly Desmon Farmer if you’re feeling particularly desperate.
Smith also sprained his ankle last night and is also expected miss 2-4 weeks (isn’t that cute, they want to be like each other). Solomon Jones (0.47) got some play in Smith’s place and scored 6 points and 9 boards in 24 minutes. Not quite a Josh Smith performance, but Smith is a one of a kind player.
Anthony Parker (-0.45) and Steve Nash (-0.46), I’m also officially calling you out for bad games. Now try better.
All Eyez On Me: Six games on the docket for today. Those of you with the YES network can enjoy New Jersey @ Indiana, where you’ll be able to watch Danny Granger perform feats of superhuman strength, like carrying an entire basketball franchise on his back. With Dunleavy out for the foreseeable future, Marquis Daniels has been everything we thought he’d be in 2006. Play him if you’ve got him.
Miami @ New Orleans is the game I’m watching given the choice. CP3, David West, Wade, the emergence of Beasley and Chalmers. Hey Marion, shoot the ball dammit!
Minnesota @ Portland: For those of you into this kind of thing, Portland is last in the league in pace this year, meaning those marginal fantasy plays on the Wolves could be in for a tough offensive night. In their last game, Portland held Ming to 13 points and 6 rebounds and Artest to 9 and 3 (although McGrady did score 30).
