Points in the Paint has a post about the decision that Jason Richardson owners are faced with. That being: Buy, Sell, or Keep? (Yes, you could argue that the question applies to every player in the league – but not all of them were drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round)
This sort of summary comment:
the procedure he underwent was diagnostic in nature and not corrective. Let’s be clear about that. Now that the results of his procedure have come up negative, Jason’s owners can breathe a temporary sigh of relief as no damage to his knees were found. The thing is that he did complain about swelling in the first place. This is what prompted the arthroscopy. The bottom line good news is that he does not need to undergo further surgery to correct anything in particular. It seems that his swelling will be taken cared of non-surgically. – Which is a good thing.
is followed up by a more important and much less wordy idea:
I guess what’s gnawing at me in the back of my head is “What the hell caused the swelling in the first place to prompt an arthroscopy?”
Meanwhile, SI.com names JaVale McGee one of their Top 3 long-term pickups. Why?
[McGee] has played just 120 NBA minutes thus far, but he’s totaled 56 points, 38 rebounds, 7 blocks, and (this is key) just 11 fouls. That translates to a rock solid 16.8 points, 11.4 rebounds (3.9 offensive), 2.1 blocks and 3.3 fouls per 36 minutes. While he’s not going to average 36 minutes this season, he could very well play 24-30 minutes from now till the All-Star break, and perhaps 30-plus minutes afterwards. The Wizards are going to fall out of the playoff race early this season, so their youngsters could see extra run in the second half. If you want to reap the rewards later, you must pick him up now, because a couple more double-doubles and he’ll likely be gone.

Perhaps he’ll be this year’s Nick Collison, since Collison clearly has no interest in that role any longer.
