Day 21 of 170:Brevin Knight Wants Your Brains

Line of the Night: In the GMTR Fantasy Guide for 2008, I believe I compared Tim Duncan (1.13) to a Toyota Camry. Well, that old reliable machine can still hit a buck-twenty when it needs to. Duncan finished last night’s game with 20 and 15, adding 6 blocks and going 2-2 from the line(!) as the Spurs held off the Clippers in a barnburner of a game, 86-83.

Honorable Mentions: On a day where there were only 3 games, Kevin Durant’s (0.74) 29 and 7 was good enough for second place. It helped that he brought 4 steals to the table as well; Chris Kaman (0.73) continues his assault on the planet Earth with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks; and the good Andrei Kirilenko (0.71) showed up for the Jazz last night and finished with 19/7/3 in 33 minutes.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: I’m not sure if Michael Finley (0.54) having two decent games in a row is a reflection of Michael Finley’s basketball talents, or due to the sad state of affairs that is the Spurs roster at the moment. The fact that Roger Mason (0.45) scored 21 points in 35 minutes on the court might be a clue, I’m thinking.

Three out of the last 4 games for C.J. Miles (0.41) have been decent ones. Yesterday, he scored a season high 21 points off 9-13 shooting. It’s probably more of a lucky run than an indicator of what to come, but he’s worth keeping an eye on in deeper leagues as long as he’s starting.

Just when you think he’s dead, Brevin Knight (0.34) reminds everyone that he only looks like a zombie, he’s not actually one of them yet. 12 and 6 for Knight in 21 minutes off the bench (as Deron Williams is out of action again); Robert Swift (0.19) is starting for the OKC and his line - 6/8/2 - inspires only the very desperate.

Brevin Knight is hungry… for BRAINS.

Biggest Loser: Nick Collison (-0.32), what’s going on buddy? For the last few years, we could count on you for one thing: 10 points and 8 rebounds. It was like clockwork. Throw in a couple double-doubles and you had yourself a nice cult following of fantasy owners.

But this? 4 points and 3 boards in 25 minutes? That’s not the Nick Collison I knew. It’s possible that he’s just not fitting in with his young team, especially the sucking part, which is not a good sign for him and the rest of the season.

Dishonorable Mentions: Did you listen to that little voice inside your head and flip Tracy McGrady (0.02) while he was hot? Hopefully, because he left last night’s game after aggravating a left knee injury. He finished with 8 points in 18 minutes; Baron Davis (0.02) shot 29% from the field, going 5-17 overall and 0-8 for three, including a badly missed three to end the game; and Shaquille O’Neal (-0.21), who has been looking decent to start the year, had 9 points and 1 rebound in 32 minutes for the Suns.

All Eyez on Me: Buy that man a car! Tonight’s most fun game to watch will no doubt be Portland @ Golden State, where we get to see if Anthony Morrow has an encore performance up his sleeves (figuratively speaking, of course, although I’d love to see a franchise play in long sleeve jerseys… and possibly bow ties).

Toronto @ Orlando - Plug and play: Will Solomon. Jose Calderon is day-to-day with a strained hamstring, he didn’t practice on Friday or Saturday and missed Sunday’s game. My money would be on Calderon to miss at least one more start. Meanwhile, Solomon had 15 points and 11 assists in previous start for Toronto.

New York @ Boston – KG will be serving his 1 game suspension tonight for “hitting” Andrew Bogut in the “face” in a game over the weekend. I’m not sure who Doc is going to start, but Leon Powe usually has big games in these types of situations.

Atlanta @Indiana – The Josh Smith-less Atlanta Hawks are struggling defensively (they allowed 119 points to the Nets in their last game). Expect Danny Granger to take advantage of Maurice Evans and bounce back from a few subpar games.
