Alternate Title: The power of the pump-fake
Line of the Night: In a night of strong performances, it is Danny Granger (1.64) who is the strongest. Taking advantage of the Golden State matchup, Granger scored a non-career-high 41 points, adding 11 boards, 6 assists and 2 blocks. He was also 17-17 from the line last night, which means he just went 42-42 from the line in the past week. Take your world record and shove it, Dr. Tom.
I think Don Nelson speaks for all of us when he’s says about Granger:
“He’s the man right now.â€
The man indeed.
Honorable Mentions: Lebron James (1.24) looked like he was playing a different game than everyone else on the Cavs and Wolves – wait, he probably was – as he shot 14-20 from the field, scoring 32 with 6 boards, 2 steals, 2 blocks and 2 threes; 27 F**KING REBOUNDS for Marcus Camby (1.19) and it came against the Bulls, of course (somewhere this morning, Nels weeps); and Jason Terry (1.15) credited the return of Josh Howard to the Mavs’ starting lineup with opening up space for his game. Sure. All that space resulted in 27/7/8 with 4 threes for Terry off the bench for Dallas.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Andres Nocioni (0.93) is only owned in 28% of Yahoo leagues, mostly because of some incredibly inconsistent play this year (trust me, I own him in the monster league, it hasn’t been fun). Last night, the Noce had 22 points and one game winning flop in 35 minutes off the bench as the Bulls beat the Clippers in OT.
The Waiver Wire Quick Fire: Jamario Moon (0.81) has found his way back into Toronto’s starting lineup and is starting to remind us why we love him last year. He had 13 and 9 in 28 minutes yesterday; Ronny Turiaf (0.78) blocked 6 shots for Golden State, but didn’t do much else; keep an eye on Kyle Korver (0.75), not because he’s beautiful, but because the Jazz might be shaking up their lineup thanks to some disappointing play from both C.J. Miles and Ronnie Brewer; and it looks like it’s time to ride Marco Belinelli’s (0.58) hot hand while Maggette is out. Belinelli was 5-8 from three and finished with 21 points.
Injury of the Night: Elton Brand dislocated his shoulder in last night’s game after he was duked on a pump-fake by Luc Mbah a Moute. He was replaced in the game (and maybe in the lineup for a while) by Thaddeus Young. Early reports have Brand missing anywhere from several games to a month.
Biggest Loser: At the moment, the Wizards kind of look like a three legged, 17 year-old mutt with Mange, one eye, and no bladder control. And while Caron Butler (-0.52) has been a small bright spot on the team, yesterday he scored 5 points off 1-4 shooting while turning the ball over 6 times.
All Eyez on Me: Two games tonight, but as usual, they are solidly solid.
Phoenix (15-10) at Portland (16-10). In their last 5 games, Phoenix is scoring 113 points per game, so it’s nice to see they are starting to run again. For comparison, Portland is averaging 103 a game themselves, which means we can expect some decent fantasy performances in this matchup. Also, note Brandon Roy owners: he had his left knee drained before Tuesday’s game. I’m not saying you want to shop him around, just don’t be surprised when he misses some time this year.
San Antonio (15-9) at Orlando (19-6) – Dwight Howard is expected to return tonight after missing two games, which unfortunately, means we have to say goodbye to our good friend, Marcin Gortat, who can now return to his day job as in extra in the Bourne movies.
