Line of the Night: Chris Paul (1.73) took last night by balls, gave it a roundhouse kick to the face and stole its woman while the night lay on the ground crying like a hungry infant. Against the Kings, CP3 finished with 34 points off 10-15 shooting, adding 9 assists and 8 steals. Two interesting facts: First, Paul set an NBA record last night with his 106th straight game with at least one steal and two, 8 steals isn’t even his career high.
Honorable Mentions: You knew it was bound to happen. Jamal Crawford (1.53) + Golden State = a 50 spot thrown down on Charlotte. He also hit 5 threes and was 17-18 from the line; anytime you get mentioned in the same sentence as Derek Coleman, you know you’re in good company. Brook Lopez (1.25) was the first Nets rookie with a 20, 10 and 5 (Lopez had 22, 13, and 5) since Coleman in 1991; Dwyane Wade (1.09) dropped 43 on the Nets (among doing a little bit of everything else), so I think it’s safe to say any slump he was in is over; Big Al Jefferson (1.01) had 34 and 13 with 3 blocks against Yao Ming of all people.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: In his third start for Houston in place of the ailing Rafer Alston, Aaron Brooks (0.62) went for 18 and 10 while hitting 3 threes. Alston is expected back sometime this week, which means Brooks moves back to the bench.
And Luc Mbah a Moute (0.55) is back in our lives. After taking out Elton Brand, Mbah a Moute followed it up with a 12 and 9 performance against the Clippers. After slumping a couple weeks ago, his offensive game seems to be back on track.
The Biggest Loser: Carmelo Anthony (-0.68) actually had the lowest score on the BM list (a lot of times it’s a bunch of guys who played 7 minutes like Courtney Lee (-0.64) did yesterday). That generally means you know his game was bad, and I think 3-13 from the floor, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 4 TOs qualifies. Pickaxe and Roll documents play by play what Melo was doing out on the court in the 4th quarter and it wasn’t a whole lot of anything.
Also, I couldn’t let a biggest loser by without mentioning Zach Randolph (-0.53) and his 2-11 shooting performance. Randolph finished with 4 points and 6 boards.
All Eyez on Me:
New York (11-15) at Boston (25-2) – The unstoppable force vs. the immovable object. Unfortunately, New York is more like the immaculate pre-ejaculation than either of those other two as Boston tries to tie its franchise record with 18 straight wins.
Cleveland (22-4) at Oklahoma City (3-24) – Interesting to see if the Cavs strong defense can shut down Kevin Durant, who is averaging 28 points a game over his last 6 game.
