Line of the Night: Tony Parker (1.14) had a fairly anemic LotN with 27 points, 8 assists, and 4 steals on only 43% shooting.

Honorable Mentions: Amare Stoudemire (1.03) had a much more impressive seeming 25 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks on 50% shooting. But I am not one to argue with numbers. I can only tell it like it is. Further examples: Kevin Garnett’s (0.86) 22 and 9 was good enough for 3rd on the night. He did shoot almost 79% from the field, and didn’t hurt your FT% at all (he didn’t shoot a free throw). Delonte West (0.85) was 4th with 18 points, 7 assists, 5 threes, and 3 steals, but he shot 6/18 for 33% from the floor, and only 1/2 from the stripe. I kind of hate nights where if 5 of the 6 shots you make are threes then you’re a LotN candidate. And so, with a mild hatred in my heart, I am putting these honorable mentions out of their misery. Nobody’s reading this anyway, since everyone’s out shopping, right? Or, are more people reading this since all the guys lady-friends are out shopping?

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Technically, we have to go with Luke Walton (0.58) and his 8 points (2 threes), 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 steal. But really? Do we have to? Walton is only owned in 2% of Yahoo leagues, which certainly qualifies him as a Waiver Wire Pickup, but does it qualify him to actually be picked up? His game log says “That’s a negatory, my good buddy. Negatory.”

A more likely pickup would be Anderson Varejao (0.35) who had 13 and 13. Nothing else going on, but what do you expect from the Large Haired One? He shot 71% so, technically, he doesn’t pass Patrick’s Free Agent FG% test, but I’m going to say he’s it because, really, do you want me to have to even look at the stats for someone named Dominic McGuire? Varejao’s got almost 9 and 7 on the season which makes him a decent Center in larger leagues or a half-decent backup in most other leagues.

Okay, I did you a solid and actually took a look at Dominic McGuire (only because I’d never heard of him before). Here’s what the Yahoo News and Notes has to say:

Dec 25 F Dominic McGuire has proven to be a capable rebounder and defender. But the Wizards envisioned him as a point forward who can handle some of the ball-handling responsibilities and even set the offense. “He’s got some nice skills that he hasn’t had the chance to exhibit previously, so we’re going to take a look at him and get a better idea of how he can contribute to the team,” coach Ed Tapscott said. “This is a great opportunity for him.” McGuire has pulled down 21 rebounds in his first two starts with the Wizards.

So, really, you might want to look at his stats and see if his terrible FG% and high rebounding numbers can fit onto your team somehow… perhaps your Mid-Ball team…

The Biggest Loser: The entire New Orleans Hornets team managed only 68 points. I think we know who’s been naughty and who’s been nice.

Speaking of naughty (sort of), we’ve been encouraging people to hang on to Greg Oden, but last night might be the straw that says “wait till next year.” Oden (-0.73) put up one of the largest negative game scores I’ve seen with his 4 point, 5 rebound outing. If I stopped right there, it doesn’t seem so bad, but Oden also had 3 turnovers while shooting 2/6 from the field and 0/3 from the line.

All Eyez On Me: Well, since all the “rivalry games” were played yesterday, let’s see what’s on tap to watch while your wife or girlfriend (or maybe both) are out shopping the sales…

New Orleans is back at home against Houston. Time to see if Chris Paul can start a new streak, I guess. Or just to see how mentally tough the Hornets are.

Dallas @ Utah: Someone is going to get left out of the playoffs in the West. Might come down to the season series between these two.

And, yeah… there’s a reason the games don’t start at noon today…

Of course we're reading. If we had lives, we wouldn't play fantasy basketball. And I'm disappointed to see that the Warriors updates lasted only one post. No cute comments to make about Marco Belinelli guarding Rondo?

I've been one of the Oden agonists here. I think I'm dropping him for good now. New year, and a new start.

I don't know Nels, I read that quote about Dominic McGuire and I see the next magic Johnson written all over it. Well, minus the skill, the rivalry with Larry Bird, the championships, a failed talk show, HIV, and a chain of movie theaters.
