Line of the Night: As a guy who took a chance on Jermaine O’Neal (1.27) in multiple leagues, I haven’t been completely happy with the experience of him sucking hard. But O’Neal is starting to feel the rhythm of the Raptors offense during the last 3 games, culminating with a 36 point (on 15-19 shooting), 9 board, 3 steal, 2 block night against the Kings. He’s now averaging over 27 points in his last 3 games.
Honorable Mentions: What funk? Chauncey Billups (1.11) led Denver to a victory with 26 points, 10 assists and went 14-14 from the line while JR Smith was busy bombing threes; Andre Iguodala (0.92) is starting to come alive recently. He has 24/4/4 and 5 steals yesterday; 26 points and 10 assists for Chris Paul (0.91) in an ugly win over Houston; and, for at least one night, Stephen Jackson (0.91) was the best player out on the court for the Golden State/Boston match-up. He finished with 28 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and 3 threes.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: A figurative free agent explosion today. Rashad McCants (0.85) gets the actual WWLotN, as he went all JR Smith on us – 7-9 from three and 8-12 overall for 23 points in 18 minutes. He neither passes my FG% test, nor any other test of pick-up-ability. Ok, he passes the guy I’ve heard of who used to be a decent fantasy guy and I’ll pick him up because of name recognition test, but that test sucks.
Speaking of guys with name recognition, Sebastian Telfair (0.6) scored 20 points and had 8 assists for the Wolves in 32 minutes off the bench. And Ronny Turiaf (0.56) played 30 minutes for the Warriors and finished with 14 and 8. What? Ronny Turiaf has no name recognition you say? Ah, you just made Angela J cry.
Kosta Koufos (0.64) had 18 and 8 for the Jazz. He stared in place of Paul Millsap, who will be out 1-2 weeks with a sprained knee ligament (that sound you hear in the distance is my CBS 30-man team bursting into flames… Brand/Kevin Martin/Gilbert Arenas and now Millsap… can’t get a better looking bench than that).
This a pretty good description of the night New Jersey had: Keyon Dooling (0.64) is listed as their top performer from yesterday’s game with 11 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. That’s a nice little night, not a leading your team to glorious victory night.
The Biggest Loser: The Boston Celtics – not for losing their second straight game – that just proves they’re not super men, powered by our yellow sun, but for only scoring 89 points against the Golden State Warriors. I’m not going to double check this, but it appears that 89 point sis the fewest scored by a team playing against the Warriors all season (Phily also scored 89 points against the Warriors earlier this year).
If you’re looking for a single man to blame your problems on, look no further than Rafer Alston (-0.48). We all know that Alston can’t shoot, but 1-10 from the floor is bad even for him. He finished with 3 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists in 31 minutes.
All Eyez on Me: Oklahoma City (3-27) at Washington (4-23) – Battle of the titans. Winner is… still in last place in their conference.
Orlando (23-6) at Minnesota (5-23) – And interesting game just to see how Dwight Howard and Al Jefferson match up to each other. In their last game, Howard owned the paint, going for 23 and 14 with 6 blocks. This time, Big Al wants blood. Or a double-digit rebounding night.
Utah (18-13) at Houston (19-11) – Boozer, Okur and Millsap are all expected to sit, which means it’s Kosta Koufos time, with a special appearance from Kyrylo Fesenko. Free K’s for everybody! And in not very surprising news, Tracy McGrady’s body is not doing well. He is struggling right now and is quick to blame it on the injuries.
