Line of the Night: For those of you still coherent enough to see it, last night gave us a strange end to 2008. No, I’m not talking about the surreal experiment ABC threw together of putting Ryan Seacrest, Lionel Richie, the Jonas Brothers, Kelly Pickler and what’s left of Dick Clark all together to celebrate New Year’s Eve with the nation.

I meant the fact that Andrea Bargnani (1.33) – who is currently owned in 47% of Yahoo leagues – finishing with the best line of the last night of 2008. Bargnani got the start at center as Jermaine O’Neal sat with the flu, and made the most of his 41 minutes – scoring 26 points, with 3 threes, 6 boards, 2 steals and 5 blocks. I believe Bargnani’s player page sums up the situation adequately, “With O’Neal not expected to miss a lot of time, if any, you can expect Bargnani’s production to slip back into the inconsistent and mediocre territory.” I would have added the words disappointing, frustrating, and a disgrace to humanity in there, but it gets the point across.

Honorable Mentions: The strangeness of last night extends way pass the LotN. Kelenna Azubuike (0.9) led all Warriors with 24 points off 8-12 shooting (4-6 from three); As long as you count TOs in your equation, the numbers say that Jeff Green (0.86) and his 26 and 8 was slightly better than Durant’s (0.65) 25 and 10; Marcus Camby (0.81) went for 16 and 17 while dishing out 6 assists – who would have thought he’d be the healthy one while Zach Randolph and Chris Kaman sit in street clothes; and Brook Lopez (0.8) took over for the Nets when Vince Carter got tossed from the game, finishing with 23 and 12 and 2 blocks.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Joakim Noah (0.74) came off the bench for the Bulls and scored a season high 19 points (he was 11-13 from the line) with 11 boards in 31 minutes. He’s in a similar position to Bargnani actually, and with the return of Drew Gooden to the Bulls lineup soon, Noah will slip back into being the disappointing, frustrating, disgrace to humanity that we all know him to be.

Luke Ridnour (0.67) had an 11/7/11 for the Bucks. As Nels noted the other day, the dude is still only owned in 41% of leagues. If you need the PG help, pick him up already.

The Biggest Loser: Vince Carter (-0.64) got thrown out of the Nets/Pistons game in the second quarter for arguing a call. As a result, Carter only played 14 minutes and finished with a 4/0/0 line. Blame referee Derrick “Give me the Under” Stafford for a couple quick technicals on VC.

It doesn’t bother me that Derrick Rose (-0.45) only scored 11 points on 5-13 shooting – it’s the 0 assists that’s inconceivable (especially when songs are being written about the man); and expectations are a little lower for Marco Belinelli (-0.72), but he had the worst shooting night of the… err, night, going 1-8 from the field, scoring 2 points.

All Eyez on Me: The NBA takes it’s 2nd? day off of the season, presumably because they don’t want to complete with the college bowl games. However, if you graduated from a crappy 3rd rate clown college like myself, then I suggest you sleep off today’s hangover with a Rocky marathon, starting at 3 today on AMC. “I guess what I’m trying to say is, if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change.”

Other Stuff Like This:

  • I realize now that I never said then name "Carmelo Anthony" in that question.
  • You shouldn't have told us you were talking about Melo, it was a fun guessing game.

Reading up on his situation (I don't have Anthony in any leagues), things don't look all that good for the guy. Bone spurs in the elbow which is affecting his shooting. And he could miss more time. Yeah, I'd be trying to move him if at all possible if I were you.

As for who to target, you probably have a better handle on it than I do. Stephen Jackson? Gerald Wallace? Kevin Durant? Ricky Davis and a ounce of weed?
  • Here's a question: After a third of the season passes with some of the worst shooting numbers in his career, who do you target for trade if you want to swap SFs? I'm at the point now where I've made a ton of excuses (his elbow is still sore, he's still very young, the team is adjusting to Billups) but I just need more than these 1-dimensional stats.
