Line of the Night: Today, it’s Mehmet Okur (1.37), who scored a career-high 43 points in a 120-113 win against Indiana by hitting 13 of his 19 shots and going 14-14 from the line. He also hit 3 threes and grabbed 9 boards.
Honorable Mentions: 33 points, 7 boards and 4 threes off the bench for Travis Outlaw (1.1); Andrei Kirilenko (1.08) scored a season-high 23 with 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks; and Steve Blake (0.86) is quietly putting together a solid season – he’s currently 88 on the GMTR player rater. Last night he had 16 points and 10 assists.
Props to Oden: We’ve been dogging him on GMTR this year, but Oden delivered last night with 17 points and 13 boards in the start against the Bulls. Of course, it was against the Bulls and their frontcourt made up of inflatable defenders, so if we’re grading on a curve, maybe Oden’s line is actually more of a C+ than anything to get lathered up about.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: My boy, Roko Ukic (0.4), checks in with the 24th best line of last night thanks to 16 points, 2 threes, and 2 steals in 24 minutes off the bench for the Raptors. If, like me, you have no idea who Roko Ukic is – the former second-round pick and rookie guard was averaging 12 minutes a game going into yesterday. He was also 4-27 from three for the entire season before going 2-2 from three in yesterday’s game.
So, it’s definitely better to turn your attention to Nick Young (0.31), who scored 30 for the Wizards in a game when Caron Butler couldn’t get any offense going. Young doesn’t actually do anything else on the court other than score, but give the kid 35 minutes a game (his minutes are on the rise) and you know he’s throwing down 20+ a game.
Biggest Loser: The Caron Butler (-0.46)/Richard Jefferson (-0.48) matchup. Call it a battle of attrition last night in Washington, as Bulter shot 2-13 from the floor, scoring 6 points, while Jefferson shot 3-9, finishing with 8 points, 3 boards and no assists.
All Eyez on Me: A number of good games tonight, including:
Atlanta (22-14) at Phoenix (21-13) – The Hawks have to run the next few games without the injured Al Horford, which means were about to get a lot more of Zaza Pachulia in our lives. That’s neither good for the Hawks or the world of fantasy. And one of the things I want to do soon is take a look at Jason Richardson and his fantasy value so far on the Suns.
Los Angeles (30-6) at Houston (24-15) – McGrady is out for the next couple weeks to deal with pain in his knee. But he’ll need to visit the Wizard to get some help on that heart he’s missing. And – at least in the last couple weeks – Andrew Bynum is beginning to look like the guy who Nels and I thought he’d be at the start of the season.
Dallas (22-15) at Denver (25-13) – Another battle between two good teams missing some key parts (Josh Howard and Carmelo Anthony). The fantasy play in this match up is Jason Terry, who started in place of Howard the other night and dropped 33 on Sacramento.
