Today marks a very important milestone… oh right, that… but it’s also the exact halfway point of the regular season, which means there is still plenty of time to get your fantasy team back in the playoff hunt or to screw up your first place team. That’s why Nels and I continue to march on with the lines!
Line of the Night: Don’t count out the old man just yet – Jason Kidd (1.13) finished last night’s game against the 76ers with a 22/12/6 line, topping it off with an 8-11 shooting night (6-8 for three). Says Kidd about his game:
“They’re going to give me 3-point shots, I haven’t been making many, but I’ve been staying with it.”
For all the talk about his demise, Kidd looks as strong as ever from a fantasy perspective – he’s 13/16 on the 8/9-cat raters, respectively. Not too bad for a guy who went 28 in the GMTR mock.
Honorable Mentions: Danny Granger* (0.9) scored 30, hitting 5-7 threes, but he couldn’t stop Chris Paul from hitting the game winning three for the Hornets; and Big Al Jefferson (0.88) had 20 and a season high 17 rebounds against the skeleton crew of the Clippers (which might be an oxymoron, I’ll have to get a ruling on that).
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Quentin Richardson (0.78). Live by the Richardson, die by the Richardson. Two games after shooting 3-11 and scoring 7 points, Richardson shot over 50% against the Bulls, scoring 24 points and hitting 5 threes.
Raja Bell (0.76), who is owned in 46% of leagues, slides in under the ownership cut-off to qualify as a free-agent pickup. Yesterday he had one of this best games of the year, or possibly his one good game of the year, scoring 25 points (and going 11-11 from the line) in 42 minutes.
How Bad Was Greg Oden Last Night? What? He was actually good, very good. Oden (0.66) scored 24 points and grabbed 15 boards in 24 minutes against the Bucks and got a standing ovation from the crowd for his work. One word of caution though: Much of Oden’s work came against Malik Allen.
The Biggest Loser: And I mean BIG. Amare Stoudemire (-0.8) had a bad, bad, bad night as the Suns got smoked by the Celtics 104-87. The worst part wasn’t his 3 points off 0-7 shooting, his 4 turnovers, or even his 1 rebound. No, the worst of it was he was being guarded by Brian Scalabrine, who got the start in Kendrick Perkins absence.
All Eyez on Me: Indiana (15-26) at San Antonio (27-13). Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. Danny Granger. …
Atlanta (24-16) at Chicago (18-24) – Expect both Al Horford and Marvin Williams to sit with injuries in this game. This makes Flip Murray an actual honest to god fantasy play. Really.
Sacramento (10-31) at Denver (27-15) – popular early season pickup Jason Thompson is starting for the Kings again and has looked pretty damn good in those starts. His last game included 22 points and 11 boards in 35 minutes. Compare that to Spencer Hawes, who got a measly 8 minutes.
* Speaking of Danny Granger and player raters, he’s been sitting around 4 on the GMTR player rater for the better part of a month now. 4!
