I know the title may have been a bit misleading, but you obviously knew I did not mean his “Airness,” right?
I was referring to DeAndre Jordan, the 7-foot, 255 pound, Los Angeles Clippers Center who started in place of injured, Marcus Camby, Chris Kaman, Zach Randolph, Brad Pitt, and heck “Bikini Girl” from American Idol. – Ok fine, I’m just spouting out random people at this point… But hell! even random people will do for the Clips to fill in the gargantuan void left by its multitude of injured guys. Marcus Camby is still out for about week. Chris Kaman is out until after all-star break! Z-Bo is still in the middle of knee rehab. Brian Skinner is practicing on a limited basis because of a knee contusion of his own. DeAndre Jordan (rookie) might just be that random guy for the Clips and perhaps for your team too!
So unless you personally feel Cheik Samb will suddenly unravel right before your fantasy basketball stat-sore eyes, then DeAndre’s 33 minute, 8 point, 10 board, 6 block performance, against the Timberwolves, might give you enough cause to plug him in your roster for one week or so. No one will contest his minutes and so he will have exactly one week to prove his mettle in the NBA.
I know it does not necessarily follow that just because a player has a lot of opportunities to play on the floor that it will translate into fantasy contributions and value. I would not have bothered pimping him if it was not for his decent performance. Did I forget to mention he got 6 blocks?
Was it a one game wonder? I guess that will have to be a judgement call every fantasy manager has to make for himself. His minor fantasy significance will odds are be good to make him a one week wonder at least, which just might be enough for that one week boost your team needs to win some big man cats versus your opponent.
